Venice Almost Ready

(Sonix) #1

Chavo One is putting the final touches on his long awaited ET map called Venice and it will soon leave private beta testing for public release. One of the things that makes his map so special is that it’s the 1st map to fully intergrate music. With 17 music peices that replace voice commands, add intensity and drama. Also new are some great new explosions I’ve been producing this summer in the backlot of my studio. Over 17 all new killer sound fx. Add to that the great scenery and textures you’ve come to expect from Chavo One.

Looks gorgeous. Cant wait to try it out. Hopefully all that music wont beef up the file size too much.

Raiders does this too… but doesn’t have 17 pieces of music

Looking forward to this one.

Just out of curiosity, how does the music replacement work, and will it affect other maps if the server happens to have it?
I´d hate to think your music could crop up in other maps in any shape or form!

Will look at screenies, but takes a while at 56k :frowning:

[EDIT] Bah no new screenies :frowning: Did you go with caustics in the end or not?

The music doesn’t replace any original sounds or anything so it won’t affect regular play outside of the map as far as I know. There is music that plays when objectives are reached…or failed and when you go into certain areas for creating tension and whatnot. They’re all short clips and loops. There’s a few sound fx that replace stock ones like a new MG for the tank.

Thanks for the compliments guys. As sonix stated, the map is nearing beta. Just a matter of applying those “final” details.

BTW sock, I love that screenshot too. Unfortunately in the end, I had to alter it a bit to lower r_speeds. Instead of the original 4 repetitions of the architecture, now you only get 2.

And Hummer, your map most definitely gets credit for being the first to use music. In fact when I saw you pull it off, it gave me the confidence that this would really work.

As for replacing common sound effects, I won’t be doing it because I don’t appreciate that behavior from other mappers. All of the sound and music will only effect the venice map.

Gerbil, I used your caustics shader as a source, but I ended up creating my own texture for the caustics. Even with my own texture, I never did get it to look exactly the way I wanted, but it is there.

I was treated to a pre-release of this (alpha4) and it is an absoultley amazing map. The architecture is beautiful and the game play processes to be fast and furious.

This is definitely a good map

Congratulations Chavo One. A very nice job indeed!
