Useful Trinket Proposal + New Case Idea!

(TheOmniscient) #1

Im open to all comments, ideas, suggestions, don’t be shy! ^^

I have the best idea to attract new players, and spice things up for old players! Why dont we create a litany of trinkets for the game… but they actually do something, and we could also revamp old trinkets for effects too.

Edit: A free Trinket would be given out to all players, and any new player that joined letting them select any bonus of their choice for free, and being able to change it free.

All special effects are CLIENT side only, and toggleable

I.e
Fortune Cookie — Displays comical fortunes on screen on kill
Fireworks Trinket — Causes fireworks to explode from bodies on kill

Old i.e
Snowman - Snow explosion on headshot
Coaly - Causes bodies to crumble like coal on kill
Lantern - Electrocution effect on kill

In all variants, special effects should exists, like the snowman snow-splosion, or the fortune cookies causing random fortunes on kill IF the user wants them only!!!

We should also have a 10% chance that a normal case can turn into a goodie bag, containing one of these new trinkets if they are added. Lets see if we can get something cool like this added, increase the fun for everyone, and spice things up a little for ALL players, new and old

After receiving a complaint from a friend on the goodie bags, I realized a credit buy option should be existent, like 25,000 Credits, so its easy for newer plays to get what they want, over scaring them away.

TO CLEAR CONFUSION
The first suggestion of boosts if aimed at NEW players! Most new players seem to be running from the game due to the grind, and this will fix that, by enticing them with an easier way to earn something, a first milestone to help them get the rest of what they want. The grind is actually really bad if you have a life, something most veterans forget due to having most everything.

The second suggestion is because the trinkets are again, pointless, and don’t impact things much aesthetically. Effects would be much more intersting and fun. This game is clearly not a super seriously highly competitive shooter as it stands, as is obvious by DBN having to ban half the things for being broken. Until balancing happens, this game is just a comical fun FPS game. If you don’t like this, then there will be a Toggle option for the effects.

Be careful, you might make some of the “super serious business time only” people here angry that you want to add some colorful fun into the game

Yeah, but this game shouldn’t be insanely serious, and Im really serious myself generally in this game, but this would be entertaining! Everyone has an opinion, Im open to suggestion

Goddammit I want a “Grunt Birthday Skull” trinket now. I loved it when headshot kills in Halo had confetti and cheerful children yelling. Everyone shall finally appreciate good vassili players…

the effects on kill is a cool idea but the others, nah

New players are scared of the grind, so this fixes that. If we keep scaring off new players, we cant build a big fan base for the game to thrive!

People are generally very wary of anything that seems pay to win, and getting lots of extra bonuses from forking over cash for a trinket, for some people, is going to go over the fine line between f2p and p2w.

The only changes I’d like to see to trinkets, tbh, is for older trinkets to get some kinda animation or something like current trinkets. Not even an animation, just particle effects would be nice; anything so they are more noticeable. Custom symbols next to your name on the killfeed for all trinkets as well.

One thing I did say I’d like to see a long time ago for the Winter’s Meme lantern trinket would be for it to start with a very dim glow, and for every player you kill, to cause the lantern to glow slightly brighter. A lantern powered by the souls you’ve reaped. And for Sparks to drop a little glitter turd.

The other change is for event trinkets that boost event make believe monies generation to just apply the bonus once purchased allowing you to use any trinket you like and still get the bonus.

What can I say, I really like my Sparks trinket.

Thats why you would make it credits only to purchase, and a random drop for the trinket goodie bag. like 25,000 credits for a trinket

Putting aside how this messes with the ( not great ) economy Splash Damage has put in, here’s the thing: trinkets are supposed to be for fun. Why would I ever slot my for fun Sparks trinket if I would have to sacrifice +25% equipment case generation?

It just becomes another equipment slot with BiS.

Like I was saying earlier, even right now, for this event, I’m using the Hexadick trinket over my Sparks trinket not because I like the event trinket more, but because it gives me an useful ingame bonus. The trinket slot is no longer for fun, and that sucks.

BiS?

All old trinkets would get something,
i.e your sparks trinket would get +25% credit earnings

Its not a must, its there mainly for newer players, we lose a ton to the grind, and because it scares them. So for a solution, we have incentives that minimize the grind for those who dont have the time or dont want to put in the extra time. This is a win for everyone, as it ropes in a bunch of new players to make the game thrive. I will never trade my Snowman for anything. But there is already a terrible version of my suggestion, which is things like the Skullsplitter or Hex trinket that gives PAYING players and advantage at earning event currency. We need something to encourage the newer players with NORMAL currency. A buyable trinket would do just that. Spending 25,000 credits on a trinket to boost their desired earnings would be a boon to everyone. Want more cases? Done, Need credits? Also done. New and old players could benefit. Old trinkets would get bonuses TOO. Like the my example of your sparks trinket.

Another thing is random effects and a goodie bag with unique items would be very neat, nice little enticing drop for new and old players, and effects are both interesting, unique, and most importantly, fun! Of course a new feature would require a setting to toggle it on or off, depending on how serious you care to be.

TL:DR: Ropes in and keeps new players that would otherwise leave.

I don’t think you get what I meant.

What if I don’t want +25% credit rewards, I want +25% equipment case generation? Then I’d have to put on the equipment case trinket which maybe I don’t want to put on, but I put on anyway because the bonus is better?

Your changes make it so players select trinkets based on which bonus they want, not which trinket they like.

So the next logical step would be to just put all the bonuses on all the trinkets and just let the player pick the bonus you want so you can keep using the trinket you want, except then…

Why tie it to trinkets at all? Just make it an account modifier or something.

Like it’s cool you want to make trinkets more interesting, since when trinkets first came out, they were massive garbage, but at the same time, these changes remove the fun aspect of trinkets.

Oh yeah, BiS means “Best in slot.”

Well, we can have slots, so if you want 25% case gen rate, bind that to your fav trinket, how about that? And that modifier costs 25,000?

Also, definitely still need the special effects, like the snow-splosion for snowman

That’s one way to decrease Splash Damage’s revenue.

I for one am completely against all the aids this would result in. None of these dumb on-kill effects belong in a competitive first-person shooter, they belong in Minecraft. You yourself may not believe that Dirty Bomb is a serious, competitive FPS game, but that is what it is labelled as, so it should be treated as such. Nobody wants confetti in their face when they’re trying to shoot people.

You mention the “grind” as if there is an end-game, but there isn’t, which means your goal with these trinket bonuses is to simply make the game easier. When you make things easier to obtain, they no longer carry their level of rarity, which is how it’s meant to feel.

Instead of taking away from Splash Damage, I suggest you give to them. Buy some Credit Boosters, buy some Equipment/Elite Cases.

Im a huge source of their revenue. And yeah, people want these fun effects. This really isnt a competitive game, lol. I spent $700 this event alone, so dont talk to me about money. The kill effects are something literally everyone i know wants and would find fun. If you want don’t want it, we can have a toggle option. I have talked to dozens of people though, pretty much everyone agrees, we need this stuff, as its hilarious, and this game is clearly not as competitive as the Devs want. When even DBN has to ban half of the game, its not worth it, cause ranked is messed. This game atm is a fun game for laughs, and this fits that perfectly. Trinkets are worthless anyway and don’t even show up well, this gives them a purpose.

The booster trinkets are aimed at NEW players, read what I wrote. Its to bring players into the game. Im sorry to say people have lives, not everyone can play as much as you or I. Mercenaries shouldn’t be such an accomplishment, which is why I bought them with cash the moment I started (yes, ALL of them, cause I have $). Most players find this a huge deterrent, and most don’t have a ton of spare cash, so we need this to be easier and more FUN. Pure competitive games and grinding are NOT fun remotely, and turns away most new players. Why do you think Arsenal crates were made? Literally this reason, to appeal to the players that have little. This would do the same. Cause, like hell if someone with over 100 special editions and 42 cobalts (me) needs em. You increase the player base, you increase revenue as players like the game and stick with it.

Competitive kinda died a while ago. Most people don’t even view it competitively anymore since balancing is seriously messed. DBN Bans half the things in the game due to heavy balancing issues. Until that is fixed, no, the scene is going to be nearly dead.

That vid is from when Comp was still a thing, its kinda dead atm

Look, if you and your group of weeb friends want to have Dirty Bomb become a colourful game full of confetti and party tricks, so be it. It’s not me that you have to convince, it’s Splash Damage, who are pushing for Dirty Bomb to be a competitive first-person shooter that takes the genre “back to it’s purest roots”.

Convincing Splash Damage I doubt will be hard. They keep adding colorful things that has no business in a pure roots comp fps. Trinkets, flashy events tailored to skins. This is just a step further that would be toggleable and make everyone happy. Those that want it can have it, those that dont, wont have it. And ~20 people I know want it, and are constant players (yet for some reason half dont have a forums account…). Splash Damage has to already know that Competitive is veryyyy dead atm. We had this discussion tail end of 2015, and nothing has changed. Comp is dead till balancing happens. And that hasn’t remotely improved, and I dare say worsened with the advent of Turtle, and revamping of Thunder.

The other wont be hard to pass either, considering it will widen the player base. Which is the OTHER reason comp is dead. Too few players

The effects arent retarded, they are fun. And it is very related, as bright colorful skins are very distracting, like ranked season 3 skins, or the Suspect skins.
