Roommate bought brink same time as I did. However, his computer uses an ATI Radeon 4xxx series. Before today’s patch, his game would just immediately crash on start up.
Well apparently the patch managed to make it so that the game will tell him what happened. Like this:

EDIT: I should mention he has updated his AMD card to 11.5 and has installed the hotfix, to no avail.
