UPDATE: Shrub Mod 1.2test13 installer for Windows ver. 1.1

(Nocturne) #1

IMPORTANT AND CRITICAL UPDATE FROM PREVIOUS VERSION:

  • It will no longer be installed into etmain, but instead it will create a directory in your ET install root (example - HDD:\ET Install dir\shrubet)
  • the radar map script fix has been included in the shrubet directory
  • a batch file is included to start the server with the according commandline options. (if you are having trouble with this file, open it in notepad and you can edit it).
  • Desktop shortcut and start menu shortcut will be created.
  • server.cfg file included and will be copied into the hrubet folder.
  • Installer will add special lines to the shrubet folder server.cfg.

I tested it on my own computer and it works perfectly.
No more bugs at last.

PLEASE NOTE:
That I did NOT create the shrub mod.
I only build the auto-installer for the sole purpose to let “n00b” server hosts to run a shrub server.

Special THNX to Ryan Mannion for making the shrub mod.

Uhmm, perhaps you should consider switching the mod to using etpub instead. I’m sorry to say but shrub is way way way WAY outdated.

(Nocturne) #3

shrub is NOT outdated, but as soon as the new etpub mod comes out I will make an autoinstaller for it

(Chruker) #4

the etpub mod is out: http://et.tjw.org/etpub/ look at the bottom.

(Floris) #5

Making an auto installer for etpub is a VERY bad idea, since its updated about every 2 weeks and I dont want noob server admins to run it… :stuck_out_tongue:

(SCDS_reyalP) #6

Agree with Florisjuh. The effort nocturne has put into this is very nice, but who wants to play on servers run by people who can’t even figure out where to put qagame :moo:

(Demolama) #7

bah dont listen to them… osp created an installer for rtcw and q3… nothing wrong with it

(Sauron|EFG) #8

If the alternative is that they put it in etmain then this installer is a good thing. :moo:

I don’t understand why the installer is almost a full MB larger than the zip though. Which installer did you use Nocturne?

(Calzonzin) #9

I for one would welcome such an installer for etpub. ETPub is not a mod for elite admins and players (ie, the “pub” part takes care of that!), it’s a mod to let people (of all skills) have more fun with ET.

So instead of having new admins ask the same questions over and over (“my etpub install does not work!”), it’d be of great help if people just used the installer and went on to the other noob questions (“how do I make a campaign” followed by “my campaign does not work”, etc…).

(Floris) #10

Yeah Calzonzin, but with etpub mod updated every 2 weeks (great btw) “noob” server admins will keep running the older versions…

(Calzonzin) #11

Yeh, I agree that’s a risk… FWIW, I added the ability to have users sign up to be notified via e-mail upon every release. Some releases are only a couple days apart (0.4.4 came 4 days after 0.4.3), so some people might appreciate being notified via email as soon as the release is posted instead of checking the website daily.

Maybe the installer can force them to sign up for these notifications? (just kidding!)

I already hacked up a NSIS (http://nsis.sf.net) installer for release with etpub 0.5.x.

It will be distributed in the etpub .zip.

If anyone feels like testing it, just extract etpub-0.4.4.zip and save it into the resulting etpub-0.4.4\win32\ directory

Great!
