UPDATE HYPEE!!!

This is the update I have been waiting forever for and I am so pumped to see it coming!!!

Thunder and Phantom are finally getting reworked while fletcher is getting nerfed for noobs but buffed for the skilled players, the devs have been listening to us and now the card system is getting completely revamped and to help us get these shiny new cards, the devs are doing a case-a-day-may event. Which will load us up with tons of shiny new cards!! And, on top of that there will be sick rewards for ranking up and an improved tutorial so that those annoying newb skyhammers will actually throw us ammo. Dang! Love it!!

I’ve heard a lot of bickering about phantom and thunder from the dirty bomb forum critics… So, I’d like to make an awesome point about these reworks.

  1. Phantom is being experimented with - obviously this is not going to be the final change to our little invisible man, this is a new idea, this game is in beta and we get to test out how this new ability will work, then the devs will improve from there!
  2. Thunder needed more health to warrant his big butt - that was one of the main things a lot of us suggested. Now his concussion grenades actually concuss players, making them run slower and hiding their hud. Obviosly the devs will watch him closely and fine tune him from there.

The point is, we are seeing splash damage not only listen to us, but they are getting more creative with this update. That’s awesome and I’m pumped to see the progress they are making. Can’t wait for the update to drop.

But, what do ya’ll think? This is just my opinion on the awesomeness at hand! :stuck_out_tongue:

I am going to enjoy DB so much over these next few weeks, even casual matchmaking cause recently I can get a good game in due to unbalanced teams and no one shuffling or leavers. The mini event will be great for me too as it gives me a chance to get some shiny gen. 2 cards without having to splash the cash or use credits.

The only thing I’m actually looking forward to is the Fletcher nerf.

Been waiting too long for the rest to actually have any hype to look forward to it.

Personally I also prefer quite a few 1st Gen loadouts over the new ones that are supposedly “upgrades”.
So I hope most of the players don’t rush to trade them in/up for next gen ones assuming we’re still getting the trading option eventually.

They still didn’t fix the issue of having the augments that slightly improve the abilities.
I will still prefer the loadouts that contain Bigger Blast/Lock on/Explodydendron etc. over the rest, as they actually do boost your combat capabilities over all the rest of the utility augments.

What DB updates have taught me is not to hype because you tend to get hurt.

Yes, FINALLY they’re doing something with Phantom but they’re still not really making him a recon merc… + doing NOTHING with the visibility or the nnnooooiisse of the bloody armor… you know, what people actually want.
Also they’re taking away the only thing Thunder has going for him.

I don’t see why they had to take Thunder’s EMP effect away. In any case, I don’t think Thunder will ever properly be able to fill the “tanky point man” role he was intended to have unless his Conc Nades debilitate enemies.

As for Phantom, he doesn’t have a spotting ability despite being classified as a Recon merc. I would trade EMP armor for any one of the several possible spotting/assassin abilities that play into his character. I didn’t compile a thread for that for nothing.

Second Edition loadout cards will be a definite improvement overall in the long run, but it’s immediate effects are going to amount to lots of RNGrinding to get high-rarity loadout cards with the new Augment standard, and many Special Edition cards becoming more obsolete than ever.

Hopefully this will be the update where Fletcher gets his AoE nerfed, because I’m ready to move past the many times I’ve accidentally blown myself up when sticky oneshotting slippery Auras and Proxys.

So overall, I have mixed feelings, but I’m hyped anyways. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

At least they’ve made some progress though. And, it’ll be fun to experiment with the new changes!!

Yeah, I am also somewhat excited about this update.

Would it be smart to give Thunder’s grenades a debuff similar to the Snitch device on blinded enemies(increasing the damage of bullets)? Or would it be too OP? I guess it’s better to keep mercs a bit unique though.

Ya, give Sniper+Pistoluser Aimees “increase bullet damage” ability to someone who has a Gun, which literally vomits bullets with a 75 magazine. Not to mention the enemy would be blinded for up to 6 seconds and only move at reduced speed… .

When we are at it we should make Rhinos Minigunbullets autotargeting because hey, wasting so many bullets on not hitting someone is a sham. (Naturally with integrated Wallhack because we dont want someone to take cover and waste bullets therefor.) :blush:

Good point. If that were to happen Thunder would probably become my most played merc. Of course I’d have to buy him first since he and Rhino are the only mercs I don’t own yet(still more hyped for Turtle).

The only thing keeping me from buying Thunder is the bright flash effect of his nades(why not a black or grey screen?).

When you think about it, Thunder is the type of merc that can hurt players in-game and in real life by burning a hole in their retinas.

I really dont think they should remove the EMP effect from Thunder’s concs, but if SD feels that it’s the right choice…well, whatever, they are the ones with access to the echo thing that collects data and the ones who can do stuff to the game. Personally, though…

As for Phantie getting an EMP field, I’d like to try and suggest a different angle to it:

  • the Cloak and the EMP Field are 2 different abilities, but they both draw from the same power bar.
  • they can be activated separately or together, using both Cloak and EMP Field together makes the power bar decrease at a faster pace
  • the EMP Field has it’s own SFX, like the Cloak’s high-pitch whine, maybe a low buzzing sound, so you can tell if a Phantie is cloaking and/or EMP-ing somewhere close by

no one wants that. i once wanted players to have a limited amount of times they can be revived by medics per life, and i got 21 disagrees in that one thread.

you know that you can find every single loadout card in the game files without any hustle? I don´t get why he bothered to collect them from people in the first place
