Basically, the client can’t do anything to the server state; i.e. almost everything to do with the game is hosted on the server.

Granted, clients are still vulnerable to exploits from evil server admins, but that is then their own fault.

Accept it, only 20% of all players have a 260b-Installation. The Rest downloaded the Client and wants to play, and they dont know how to upgrade. That’s why I’m gonna try to use this patch, PB is an asshole anyway.

Too man client side fixes on 2.6b and even after 5 years we are debating for 2.55 which in fact ID should have stop listing servers for it.

Prolly ID is enjoying the discussion between 2.55 and 2.6b players/admins haha

More like 80% are on 2.60 and we, along with most other resource sites have a 2.60b full installer, no need to ever touch 2.55

ppff well i can tll you going back to 2.55 won’t help if you can’t attract players on 2.60
Some friends of mine had a 2.60 server that was busy, then they put a bunch of downloads on their and killed the population.
So the switched to 2.55 to get the that ‘bigger’ player base. Now they can get a max of 8/40 players a week.

on the BO servers (where I play now) we run 2.60 and we have every day 20+/32 players on our jaymod server and our fresh NQ server that we just installed already has 12/20

So if you just know how to get the players 2.60 is great!

EDIT: look at it this way everytime you think about playing ET 2.55 Chuck Norris kicks a puppy in the face. Do you want to hurt a puppy?

Whenever I connect to a 260b-Server, it’s empty or there are just 3 players on it.

Why dont you tell the NQ-freaks? Its possible for them to add sth to NQ125 so that it doesnt list 255-Servers, isnt it?

Do you know what I am just thinking of? Maybe a strange thought, but let me explain:
Most players download their ET by asking Google and clicking the first link. If we would ask the most famous pages to delete their 2.55-clients and add the 2.60b-client, we could maybe get slowly rid of 2.55.
If we all looked for the most famous pages and wrote a short text together that we mail them, this might work.
What do you think?

Since there are two version of ET ( 2.55 and 2.60b ), the ET-Community has a big problem: 2.55 is very buggy and shouldn’t be used anymore, but most players do have the 2.55-Client, and it’s impossible to connect to a Server running 2.60b with the 2.55-Client. That’s why most Servers run 2.55, because they are afraid of an empty server if they run 2.60b. If the most famous download pages provided the 2.60b-Client instead of the 2.55-Client, new players would have 2.60b, so that we could get slowly rid of 2.55.

It would be very nice, if you deleted the 2.55-client and added the 2.60b-Client instead, which you can find here: http://wolfmap.de/details.php?file_id=2242

If thats possible then by all means do it. But in fact they can’t and even if they do 2.55 server admins will not update their NQ.

Their is only one solution. No master server list for 2.55.

lol if you give ID a large lump sum of monnies and then ask I’m sure they’ll do something for it, cause at the end of the day thats what it grinds down to imo (why support a free game?)

There are 3.5 versions of W:ET; 2.55, 2.56, 2.60 and 2.60b. Servers should definitely be 2.60b for security reasons, clients can be just 2.60 unless you want to play ETPRO 3.2.6, then you’ll need 2.60b.

Mhmm, i don’t think it will help the ET community at all.
There will be die-hard admins who will stay with their butt on 2.55, 2.56.
To remove the links and to force them ain’t such a good idea.

I guess if you would start this action, we will lose more servers / players than we win and…just my 50 Cents.
