Right, so ok, to keep on topic, since you’re not happy with the originally provided solution, go make a PK3 file and post it up here so that users can download it. Problem solved and we don’t need to change ET.exe anymore :slight_smile:

Well “if” id is solving the issue- like was stated in a different post- by a splash damage person- why then bother>? That be a waste of my time. But if they dont- fix it. then yeah I will. hell. I mite even host the list myself if ID and splash damage gives me written permission :smiley:

Just for the information, silEnT mod checks the ET.exe file and will not recognize it. This is a good feature against couple hacks, but in this case it may cause problems for the players.

It’s not good against many hacks but most importantly the modified ET.exe was only one alternative, modifying the hosts file will work fine and is the better option.

as im at work i cant test it atm

but i got one of my clanmembers to test it on our silent server 81.91.242.31:27967, he used a 2.55 et.exe as the server is 2.55+ and he is on right now while im typing this without any problems

Instead of modifying the ET.exe, we could consider a MSI installer who will write the line “91.220.53.73 etmaster.idsoftware.com” in the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts ?

The !finger command output will show client executable unrecognized. It is possible for admins to not allow unrecognized clients to the server, this undocumented feature at the moment though.

Its funny you bring up silent mod. we added a check in that mod to check just for “adjustments” to the et.exe… {the main reason was as 7killer stated- to keep __ clan form modding it again.} I am not sure what the other “silent” teams and coders are working on. but when the servers list are back up you should go look at his work… I dont have the time to work on the mod anymore.

Just checked, just joined some etpro 3.2.6 server without any problem.

Edit Just checked, silent 0.5.0 says I’m a valid client too :slight_smile:

GG Paul, first method is OK with 2.55 client, list is very well populated, but does it mean that, in only one day, a hundred of server-admins have added the sv_master5 setting, or do you scan yourself by another way ??
