Unlocking/leveling and competitive BRINK

But like most FPS, a promod will eventually release, with every perk/weapon/attachment they find balanced enough unlocked,
and every body will be happy.
Since there is no confirmation yet when there will be a SDK or if there will even be one I wouldn’t be so sure.

(JeP) #62

I’m pretty sure I’ve read an interview of a dev saying SD and Bethesda have both an history of supporting the modding community, and that they will on Brink. Can’t find it though.

(Bridger) #63

Nonsense, comp players spend more time playing the game than any other group I’d imagine. Not sure what your point is.

How bad it is really depends how many and how difficult the challenges are. Forcing people to spend a long time to go through an alternate optional game mode that they don’t enjoy in order to play the normal game mode competitively wouldn’t be good.

I’ll probably enjoy the challenges though, I’d like to know more about them.

(Herandar) #64

The point is sarcasm. Very potent, dark sarcasm.

If comp players play that much, they will have unlocked most everything.

(Bridger) #65

Well theoretically a clan has prepared ahead of time and has everything picked out, so the warm up customization shouldn’t take longer than a minute or two to choose everything.

If the unlocks are tied to game time then yes, they will have. If they are tied to challenges (an entirely separate game mode from what I understand) then you are potentially forcing players to grind something they don’t want to do before they are competition ready.

For all I know the challenges will be great, but some people still will not like them as much as the main game, and those people shouldn’t be forced to grind something they don’t find fun in order to get to the part that is fun.

But it’s all moot as long as we can get a comp mode to allow temporary characters. I really hope this is moddable if it’s not ready out of the box.

(Bridger) #67

That’s a lot of content to leave out, which may affect the balance as well as preventing a wider range of strats. It would be a shame if we were forced to adopt this technique.

I can’t speak for Brink yet, but almost every other game only gets you more spammy/skillless weapons when you level up. And spammy/skillless weapons have no place in competitive gaming.

I hope not, that is directly against the stated credo of the devs for brink though. One of their main goals was to remove spammy/skillless stuff from the game. That’s why there is very little if no one hit kills and grenades knock you down instead of insta-kill.

Now I don’t see why comp players are still whining. Of course Brink basic settings won’t be made towards you,
most player just don’t care about that they want to have fun, SD is trying to appeal to a new crowd, etc.
.
Where the hell was anyone whining?

(Herandar) #69

In like four or more different threads the past few days.

(figjam) #70

Might as well play COD…

(Linsolv) #71

You’ve convinced me. Black Ops doesn’t have any problems and is the perfect game in every way, and therefor there is no reason for me to try a new IP by a company not affiliated with Bobby F’ing Kotick.

(tokamak) #72

Indeed, and that’s why this forum never was an effective spot to lobby in the first place.

Oh well, it doesn’t stop us from discussing what it could have been.

(DeTh) #73

Of course modding the game is not completely out of reach if you look at things like wolfpro for Wolfenstein:ET. Which both wolfensteins were very successful competitive games and both had competitive mods.

Or maybe they could take a page from Team fortress 2 which has editable cvars and commands so that you can have a tournament mode on your server as well as white lists to outlaw items.

This game has alot of hype from the competitive pc community, so hopefully that will be taken into account. there is even talk of a brink tournament at quakecon this year on pc.

(Nail) #74

I’ve heard nothing of Brink at QuakeCon, just QuakeLive

Brink isn’t an id Software game

(DeTh) #75

true but Bethesda is a major contributor to quakecon so it is entirely possible
