LOL! What has any of this stuff got to do with comp?
Unlocking/leveling and competitive BRINK
‘‘Unlocking AND Competetive BRINK’’
So… Maybe I took this ‘‘AND’’ for granted

Guns for challenges
Clothing for leveling
Attachments for challenges

What are challenges exactly? Are you saying I have to go through and win a race around the map to get access to gun X or earn an achievement for killing 3 guys in mid air on map Z to get gun Y?
This makes things even worse for the level playing field concept. At least when it comes to perks you can coordinate with your team for a specific map ahead of time. Now every single competitive player has to grind through something they might not even want to do in order to be on a level playing field?
Or are the unlocked guns just weaker versions of the guns everybody gets? I don’t like either of these options :\
I don’t really care personally, but thanks to CoD this is how most gamers are. And the thing is… Brink could easily do this. I mean CoD games nowadays have like 60 levels and also a change to prestige (let’s say that prestige = another character in Brink). Now - both have weapons, perks/abilities and attachments / weapon customization. But Brink also has clothing items, something CoD doesn’t have. Brinks customization could go on for much longer, but I assume that it is much shorter.

The guns are ‘‘sidegrades’’, like increased damage for longer reload and accuracy

Challenges are a side-mode that is not part of story mode. You will most likely play story mode maps in challenge mode, but you will be subjected to certain rules (the example Richard Ham gave was that you might be required to play Medic, and keep everyone up and healed for a certain amount of time). Then for each challenge mode level, there will be multiple “levels,” so once you keep your whole team healed against Easy bots, now you have to keep them all healed against Medium bots, and so on.
It’s not playable in MP, though I’ve heard here and there that you CAN do challenges co-op.

The temp character solution I gave, throws all that stuff out the window.
Everything is unlocked, everyone has access to the same things, and everyone is denied the same things based on the ruleset. This way, a player can join a comp match without ever having played a pub match or without ever doing a challenge. And it pays respect to the character creation part of the game. You would have to collaborate with your team, who has what build.
Schwarzeis : Pointing each feature of the game (challenges, getting XP, etc) as it was a REAL PAIN don’t sounds like it, to me.
Maybe… That’s the way he likes his gaming?
Not defending nor attacking anyone right now
Atleast I hope I’m not :infiltrator:
That’s what I would prefer, but either every single competitive player has to complete every challenge or unlockable guns will be banned from comp :\ I really hope Brink comes boxed with a comp mode for the server that fixes these kind of issues.
Here’s hoping for that temp character switch as a server variable.
Not a pain, a problem with the game’s design from a competitive perspective. Challenges sound cool. I’ll probably play them and enjoy them. But locking game content with them is a problem for competition.
You mean, comp players might actually have to play the game first!!! OH NOOOOEESSSES!!!1ONE!!!1ONE!!!
Hey, Pokemon is an incredibly competitive game, but you still have to play through the entire main story to get access to everything in the game. Not sure how relevant that is, but it is a good way of making people play the actual games before moving on to random PvP battles.
I’m not comparing the two games, but rather the fact that the people who made the two games seem to want players, both casual and competitive, to play the actual game and not just dive straight into clan wars and stuff first thing.
If a competitive player can’t complete challenges, I’d be more worried that he’s considered one
Both are fruits, yeah?
Both are tasty, yeah?
Both are able to cause allergic reactions, yeah?
Both come from trees, yeah?
Both totally be more wish was more be like, yeah?
It’s possible to compare them!
