Unicode character names ?

Hi

I realise unicode character names would add to technical complexity. Things like banning people via console commands would be more difficult - unless you have some form of tab autocompletion, for example. But for a game which aspires to have a believable, multi-ethnic setting it would be a natural fit. Icing on the cake.

Will Brink allow Unicode (UTF-8) character names, or just ASCII as usual ?

No, you get your standard colored names deal and that`s it.

ok since a thread is up on names…

is there gonna be account created names, so other players cant use/steal the same name(like etqw)?

i hear brink is gonna be on steam, all steam games(that i played) u can change ur name ne time you want, will it be like that?

is there a max(12)/min(2) amount of characters u can use in your name?

Does the 360 and PS3 support unicode names? While I wouldn’t say it would totally discount support on the PC/Steam I’d think it would be a factor.

Because of multi-language code builds, unicode is the prefered character set to use. It’s much more friendly than using ASCII. Think of making a Russian build, Arabic, etc, and you’ll understand that it’s much better.

With that said, it’s hard to say if naming will support anything else than the normal printable ASCII characters. That’s up to SD. As far as banning, kicking, etc, that would be solved by using a graphical display list of the players on the server and choosing either the player number using the keyboard or clicking on it with the mouse.

Being a French and English speaker, I would prefer seeing ASCII, but I also understand other people’s interest in seeing their proper nickname in the language of their choice. So, in short, SD will do as they please.
