Underground Rad Soldiers Tourney of Death

I was challenged elsewhere to design my own tourney, advertise, and run it.

So here it is CIAKGB’s Tourney of Death.

I will NOT be playing. I WILL be staking $10 of my own money for the winner.

Registration is rolling. When I get four registered, I will start you as a quad. All quad members play all members twice on one map, which will be randomly selected.

YOU MUST PREREGISTER YOUR SQUAD OF 26 POINTS THAT YOU WILL USE FOR THE ENTIRE TOURNEY. You do this in a PM to me now.

If you are not level 40, you must PM me and explain why you are serious and will finish the tourney.

All moves must be completed in 24 hours. If your game icon reads “one day” you may claim a win by forfeit. All games run simultaneously.

Draws on agreement of both players.

You can still advance if you don’t win your quad, so play all your games. Second place finishers will be picked as needed to make up the next round of quads.

Honor system to be agreed on by all players:

I will take my matches seriously and move in the 24 hour time limit or I understand I will be removed and barred from future CIAKGB tournaments.

I will not manipluate game parameters in an unfair manner, ie reading an opponents move and quiting.

I will have a damn good time and kick some ass.

A couple questions.
Are captain’s abilities included in the pre-chosen squad or can they be different for each game?
As far as “peeking” goes. I am aware of 2 methods of peeking. One method I do consider to be cheating but with constant, pre-selected squads, you have essentially eliminated that cheat.
The other method of peeking I think is reasonable and not cheating. You can look at your opponent’s move and think about it awhile before committing just like you have infinite UNDO.
What peeking are you referring to?
I’ll play by whatever rules you set up, I just want to make sure I know what they are.

No prob, I would say abilites can change. I would use random abilities, but they are always awful.

I agree for this tourney peeking shouldn’t be a problem. The “legal” form is fine as long as you keep to the time control.

Honoured to be chosen in a tourney. You dont need to put money up, it is all about glory and becoming a Legend (in our own minds) :stuck_out_tongue:

Who chooses the random map?
The thing is with random the second player could set capt abilities to map if it based on first contestant. If CIAKGB chooses then this dosnt matter unless it is expansion which I do not have so cannot do if going first.

If you want we can preselect abilities as well. Some of you said your squad, but not the weapons, you have to choose those as well:)

My fix for the expan maps Goon, (besides buying them already! they are fairly cheap and fun) is that if that situation comes up in pairing, if one of you has the map, they will challenge you and you will use the rematch button to counter challenge. If neither of you has the map or your opponent is unwilling to do that, I will simply pick a map you have.

As we play both sides, map selection shouldn’t be as relevant as some tourneys. Besides, I’m sure people are itching to have a serious battle on construction say

I would love to have people simply use the random map option, but I worry that people might mistrust eachother too much (“is this really random?”) so I’m happy to literally put the maps in a hat and make random drawings.

Also rather than have one map for the whole quad (six games on one map is a little much), I’ll be assigning a different map for each pair of players. For example player 2 and 3 will play on Suburbs. Player 1 and 3 will on Beach, etc.

Sound good?

As for strict newbies, we should do a tourney just for them, 14 points, standard maps. Another thread for someone:)

Problem is getting the word out because newbies haven’t made their way to the forums yet. Now if Splash used there in game messaging to promote some events, you could see a real boost in participation–hopefully enough for a progamable “bot” to handle tourneys 24/7!

BTW, in case anyone cares, I spent my 200 rad bux in about 20 seconds! I got my third Ivan, second tito, third madame, and a fourth gus:)

Goon, replay would allow you to use same map you just played on even if you didn’t have it, if I’m wrong we’ll work it out.

Please check if the replay option gives the non-map owner access to the just played map. I don’t think it does. I will test it myself but it will take a while.

Hey goon, ets try it. I’ll friend you, then challenge u to a 14 at construction. If you would, just bring one guy and let me kill it. Then we’ll try the replay button.

If there is any issue, we will simply play that player on his maps if we have to, not the end of the world…

OK, we have enough to start. I won’t spring it on you guys, and we’ll take it easy a bit the first quad till we all get the hang of it.

Jerry-Rigs is in with squad and weapons, please pick abilities.
Goon is in with squad and weapons, please pick abilities.
Mitsid is in with squad but no weapons, please pick abilities.

Most excitingly for me and I’m sure you, Tinker is getting his squad together! Not only will you have a chance to play him, he is going to try and do some sort of presentation of his games so we can all enjoy them.

A few others are on the fence, including some top players. I hope the interest and high level play spurs more of you to participate!

Update on that. After your quad starts, I will be releasing what squads you are all playing. I will not release what abilities you have chosen. One of the best, subtle parts of the game is discovering that, so I would hate to take that from the experience. It will of course become public knowledge as we go on, but at least at the start everyone is in the dark together (kinky).
