UI feedback and a few bonuses

When I view a full profile in mercs menu, I can’t find any kind of back button. I tried the most intuitive button (esc) but it didn’t take me back to the merc choosing screen. Clicking inventory --> mercs feels clumsy.

I also had trouble finding where to change my loadout. It’s in a fairly obvious location, but it didn’t stand out as a UI element so I went through all the menus 2 times looking for it. It just slipped past my search. The elements that I feel stand out the most in the mercs menu are the shiny “recruit merc” button in the center and the “full profile” button. I think the “current squad” location needs some brighter colour. When I found the slots, it wasn’t obvious which order they were in.

I haven’t found a loadout card in this update yet, so I haven’t been able to look at how the card UI works much. I think it would be better to disable the constant commentary by the character when you’re browsing cards. Put an equip button or something in there instead. Make the comment when you equip the card, not on every click. It gets repetitive and loses its impact/novelty. It becomes annoying when it should be awesome.

Quick matchmaking button never finds games with more than 2-3 players per side. Then half the people quit when the match is about to start as 2v1 or 2v3. This is especially bad for new players because skill differences are more pronounced in smaller games.

In the end-of-match screen where you see exp etc., the hitboxes for the buttons are not the same size as the graphic. You can’t change tab by clicking the upper part. This caused me to think that the button was unresponsive.

I got an error when I tried to join a server normally.

One bonus gripe: I think the detective anti-hack icon is in mismatch with the game’s theme.

EDIT: The anti-cheat thingey just shut my game down, while I was writing this post. Here is my xigncode.log.

EDIT2: Forgot anti-cheat pic. Here it is.

When you are viewing a merc’s detailed profile, the page title will change from “Mercs” to “Mercs / Aura” for instance. Clicking on the “Mercs” portion will bring you back to the main mercs page.

In my opinion there should also be a way to navigate from one merc full profile to the next without having to go back to the main page. Little “next” / “previous” arrows on the right and left edges of the page would do fine, perhaps with the portrait of the corresponding merc appearing when you mouse over.

I just got stuck in the matchmaking connect dialog. This happened after I was startled by the matchmaking notification sound which worked outside of master volume and got a 1min penalty for declining.

EDIT: When you wait for a match to start in comp matchmaking, it doesn’t wait for the group to be full. I just played a game that was 4v5 from the start.

EDIT 2: The drop UI is confusing. I had gotten 2 drops in my matches but since there was a picture of what looked like a computer case on my score screen, I didn’t figure out what it meant and didn’t check my inventory. The notifications behind your avatar aren’t clear enough. At one point it said something about contracts but I didn’t really understand what it meant. The item drop notifications were not removed when I unlocked the crates. I also had like two times as many notifications as drops. It was like I got a notification every time I got bombgold at the end of a match.

Suggestion of improvements:
It would be better if mouseover would mark the notification as read and the notifications would be removed once you close the notification list. “Item acquired”-notes should be also hidden if you mouseover the item. These items should be highlighted in the inventory until you mouseover them. MMORPG style.

The cards have a yellow outline out side of the rarity outline sometimes but I don’t really understand what it means. If it’s a “guys this is valuable” thingey, it doesn’t really feel that way. I think using bright colours is a good idea for the uncommon/rare/epic/etc. qualities. Perhaps involving the background of the card in the design would make the rarer ones look more valuable if you’re going for that.

I think the amount of matches to get a new merc is fine. I think it’s about 30 matches without doing any quests for me.
