Uh-oh @ servers

Been looking forward to Brink ever since I first heard about it and was definitely wanting to purchase a server from a GSP.

However, looking at Multiplay.co.uk, they’re saying it will cost £24 a month including a 25% pre-order bonus for a 16-slot server, due to how expensive the servers are to run. Is this true?

Are they doing something wrong? If not, it seems the server software is really unoptimised…

why not run it yourself?

No PC to work as server? why not you and your friends gather some old pc parts and build your own server?

It’s a challenge ;D

There’s another issue as well. I’m not seeing any commands for binding IPs. This means that every Brink server on one machine will have the same IP, not good news for GSPs; or anyone.

There are more cvars than the guide covers, some were missed accidentally, some aren’t that important so are not documented. In this case +set net_ip <ip> was missed, but works

win! !!! chars…

(Insanity) #6

That’s rather steep, there better be a lot of features for that price!

Actually EvoServers is offering this as cheap @ 14.99 for a private 16 slot or 15.99 for a public :D.

Guys remember that GameServers is pretty bad reg lol… just saying.

(coleym91) #11

Oh? I tried out their CSS test servers and the reg seemed fine on there. How good are the Evo servers?

When (if) SD releases the linux server, you will be able to rent any dedicated server and that are much easier to find. You would need to find someone to share it with b/c you can run multiple servers on that 1 dedicated server and it is more expensive than renting virtual game servers.
You can even rent dedicated Windows servers and simply run the steam version, but let’s be real…
Linux servers, ama rite?
