Uh.. I left that game for a reason!

(Shotgun Surgeon) #1

So I have just tried 50 times (literally… at LEAST 50 times) to try and find a new game but it keeps connecting me to the same exact game. Does no one play this game anymore? Should I trade this in while I still can and join the COD bandwagon just because it’s easier to find a game? What’s going on here?

edit: at least 60 tries now. I’m going to keep trying, and if I can’t find a new game after 100 tries… then LOL there’s no way I wil regret trading in a dead game.

Brink seems to have a bad habit of placing people right back in the same lagtastic match they left in the first place. I don’t know why.

I can at least promise you there are more than 16 people playing at a time. Brinks matchmaking just isn’t up to par…yet.

Lag, Lobbies, Matchmaking. These will make this game wonderful.

on the server browser check your starred servers (favorite ones)
unselect them:)

game probably mark with star a server you played during campaign. And if you want to play campaign again, it will select one of the server you played on before (marked with star)

i have defended this game and i have been patient. but when i’m having a bad day and all i want to do is play brink… this happens. so really, you can’t blame me for being upset.

(Bakercompany) #5

Don’t blame you at all.

I think Shotgun is on PS3 bud. And i’m on 360. We don’t get a server list to browse, its 100% random for us. And it sucks.

You can read the details of what I mean in another post here http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26580

(TheDedOne) #6

Try selecting a specific map instead of “any”. Thats what I do when it keeps throwing me in the same session, and it usually breaks the cycle.

(Bakercompany) #7

Good thinking =)

(Shotgun Surgeon) #8

I’m on 360 as well. It’s been over 100 tries but idk about trading it in I’ll probably regret it. But that doesn’t change the fact that i’m mad! Damnit!

(fearlessfox) #9

On ps3 here and this has never happened to me. I’ve put in a good few hours too.

If you’re using anything other than Standard or Big Teams as your filter then this could easily happen as hardly anyone’s playing the other types.

If not then it could be the time you’re playing, but I’ve never had trouble finding multiple full games.

PS - I’m not sure if many people are playing stopwatch, either.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #10

I’ve had this problem a few times before. But it usually connects to another game before I reach 100 tries !!

(Shotgun Surgeon) #11

ok, here’s an update… now it’s putting me in matches by myself. idk anymore.

(Bakercompany) #12

From what i’ve read the PS3 is doing much better than 360 (irony?) Or maybe all that downtime made PSN way better…who knows.

Sounds like its just xbox guys getting hosed atm. But I think they are simple fixes.

You have a right to be frustrated. Its why i’ve been on here more than in Brink, I can’t hardly play it. I’m not going to trade it in any time soon. I’m giving it at least through june for them to implement some fixes.

PS3 also had a BETA, whereas the Xbox 360 didn’t.

Regarding the the OP, I’ve had this issue. I find that changing either the mode you are playing (i.e. Standard, Big Teams, Competitive, etc.) or selecting a different map will obviously break the cycle, but it doesn’t guarantee that you will join a game without lag.

As far as I can tell, all it takes is one bad player or a bad host to ruin a good game (of players with good connections who had played together for several maps). Once this happens, I select the offending player (based on the red bar next to their name… or the one player without any lag at all i.e. the weak host, and I SUBMIT PLAYER REVIEW > AVOID THIS PLAYER > COMMUNICATION > DISRUPTIVE VOICE. This doesn’t guarantee that you won’t play with them in the future, but it reduces your chances.

I select “Disruptive Voice”, because there isn’t a “Poor Connection” option.

Interestingly, I don’t find that there is lag in games full of purely human players. Maybe this is just anecdotal, but I find these games completely lag free. I’m referring to games full of 16 human players (Big Teams) or 10 human players (Competitive). In my experience, games with bots are when lag is both more dramatic and more punitive (b/c it simply doesn’t interfere with the AI and you will teleport around into walls until an AI player kills you instantly).

Yes, I’ve the same suspicion on PC servers as well, bots generating lag

When you select “Competitive” mode, doesn’t it mean “bot free” game for you 360 players? In this case, it would be good to prefer this mode over others, wouldn’t it?

YES! I experience the same as well. I lag a lot less when it’s 8v8 humans. But when there are bots involved, it gets really laggy!

I don’t think bots should have been in multiplayer to begin with! Isn’t it bad enough we have to deal with them in campaign? Multiplayer is supposed to be human vs human. A new player’s first multiplayer experience is usually standard, and playing with bots is just a huge turnoff.

(Jak Swift) #16

Why dont Splash damage answer these questions, we have a right as customers to know why the game is performing ****, This “Free DLC” is like putting a Pig in a elegant dress, its still a pig!

(NRGIZER36) #17

How can this all be happining defending game still upset waiting for DLC things will or wont get better yikes!!!

(KAS--Will) #18

I’ve never had this problem… :frowning:

(dazman76) #19

I’m not so sure about the bots on PC servers theory, but I’ve only played on our server so far. We have a Multiplay server, and have had up to 14 bots during a game - lag-free, all the way.
When you select “Competitive” mode, doesn’t it mean “bot free” game for you 360 players? In this case, it would be good to prefer this mode over others, wouldn’t it?
In an ideal world…

However, “Competitive” means VOIP On (good) but FF On, as well.

FF On in Xbox Live matchmaking is a nightmare, owing to the nature of the gaming demographic on Live. I quit one game, because an asshole on our team would gank all of us at the objective we were guarding… and then throw us all revive syringes. He finished one game with 200 xp due to all his Team-Killing. I was having a great time until then.

Vote-kicking should be enabled for “Competitive” on Live. (Is it???)

Alternatively, you should only play “Competitive” with your Friends List.

I feel that there should at least be a game mode where the game setup is VOIP Off an FF Off, but where bots are completely disabled. This doesn’t have to be the default mode, but I suspect that many players would prefer to play this mode.

I would play this mode, because I hate playing with the friendly AI. They are a waste of my Pips as a Medic, because they revive themselves just to walk out into the same line of fire that I just saved them from.

I wish that you could at least distinguish bots from computer players in some other way with your HUD so that you could avoid wasting buffs, etc. on them.

The bots in Brink are indistinguishable from human players… with the exception of the fact that they never complete primary objectives and they behave in a largely idiotic manner. Otherwise, they are completely indistinguishable… (lol)
