Two Things A Console MP Game Needs: No Lag and Lobbies

(Brink Lags) #1

And neither were delivered for a game that’s sole purpose is online MP.

I’m insulted by this game. Who does Splash Damage take the console community for? I feel like a rube. I feel like I got scammed.

What were you doing for all these years Splash Damage?

This discussion should’ve been had at meeting #1 for Brink:

“Okay, so, we’re doing this for all platforms.”

“MP focused game right?”

“Right.”

“So, the network clearly can’t lag or we have no game.”

“Yeah, and since its going to be on consoles we need a lobby.”

“Okay, good start, lets go to work.”.

That didn’t happen, which tells me the game was never designed for consoles and they crowbarred the console release idea in way too late for a money grab. We got scammed console users. Plain as day. We’ve been hoodwinked.

I also feel that consoles got the short end of the stick. Hopefully SD will be the great devs they were in their previous titles for ALL SYSTEMS and not just pc.

If consoles don’t get nearly as much as pc i will lose alot of respectct for the SD crew.

Tho i don’t know if online is laggy or anythibg since psn is STILL down!

The game needs “No Lag”…

I’m not sure if you know how networking works at all. If you console players all have a failboat of a connection (upload wise), you cannot handle hosting servers. That’s why you get lag. They can’t magically make the game improve your internet connection’s abilities.

I’m glad you guys got the short end of the stick for once, we usually get screwed over on every release. Hurts doesn’t it?

The best thing that could happen to this game was PSN being down. That’s another population of gamers they don’t have beating down their door for a refund.

Its Trolltown and you’re the mayor.

Thanks for being glad the P2P netcode wasn’t optimized for Console. Or how host is selected. Enjoy your dedicated servers while we enjoy random P2P hosting for a game that can’t handle P2P host selection.

A new thread on the subject is exactly what is needed, cos your 1st one just wasn’t enough.

(mortis) #7

Indeed. Lock this please.

I wonder if the matchmaking is not filtering by region. If you keep looking for games, you’ll eventually find one that is lag free. This makes me think that maybe when there is lag it’s because I connected to host in another country. At least, that’s my humble opinion.

(Brink Lags) #9

I paid $60 for a game designed to be played online that doesn’t function online.

As the customer who purchased a broken product, I’m entitled to make as many threads about it as I deem necessary until the problem is resolved. I don’t remember reading any Splash Damage refund for unplayable 360 Lag thread, so forgive my complaints until then.

(Brink Lags) #10

If locking this thread solves the lag problem, lock away!

Definitely needs lobbies, heck i would be happy if all my friends were in the same match even if we are all walking into a wall.

On a separate note can someone tell me if my conection is any good, heres what i got offline:

ping: 23ms

Download speed: 15.48 Mbps

Upload speed: 1.86 Mbps

I just want to know if i am one of the ones causing issues. I dont lag in any other online games Halo/GOW2/COD

Yes… you already said this… in your original thread. Making repeat threads does nothing, they know about the issue, they’re working on the issue… all you’re doing is causing more aggro to the users of the forum and nothing else. You’re being a dolt, SD knows how much this is affecting customers, and as far as I can tell, have been all hands on deck trying to get fix made. These things take time… and no amount of threads will make it go any faster.

I have 25 down and 5 up, which is waaaaaay more than you’d ever need, and its unplayable.

The game wasn’t optimized for P2P, so I don’t know how its picking host but its picking bad hosts. Or the game can’t handle P2P for any host. Or it can’t handle P2P for out of region players or hosts. Newsflash, everyone on Live plays all over the country with each other.

Typically for XBOX Live you should be perfectly fine with 1.86 up. Live has standards, and I presume SD ignored them when developing this game. Who knows what they were doing but this game needed a Console Beta in the worst way. You can’t have lag when MP is effectively your entire gaming experience. Its like selling a car with no tires.

Microsoft really needed to help them figure this out. How did this game ever go Gold???

One thread is quite enough, thanks.
