Two simple menu changes to improve things

(solidus) #1

This is for the console verions.

Change the required players to start games to more than 1 for all the freeplay playlists. It’s a very simple settings change and it reduces the chance of people entering games and having to play with dumb bots or be the only human on their team. Games should wait to start with more people so you don’t have to wait forever for them to fill up with actual people and you actually are playing with people from the beginning of the game. That’s the way every other multiplayer game handles it and the way the compeition playlist handles it. There is no need to start up a new game with only 1 human. Leave that to the campaign if that’s what some people want. Required players should be 4 or 6 or 8 minimum for every playlist.

The other thing is that Stopwatch should be a playlist under Match settings. Not a separate mode under game mode. No is one playing it because no one clicks on that game mode setting so I bet tons of people don’t even know its there. Most people are use to filtering by the playlist level. That’s how nearly every other game does it so that’s how people are trained to look. Not to mention all you are doing is splitting up the small number of people who do play stopwatch into 5 different playlists. You don’t split up a small community like that. Move stopwatch to the playlists under match settings and you will get more people actually playing it.

I agree with this post!

agreed…

I love the game but there are a lot of little stuff like this that makes me think Splash Damage never played a console game in their life to see how everybody else handled the infrastructure side of mp games.

This.

Seriously, I had to google what a “VOIP” was. No one uses that terminology on consoles.

I would love to see a dedicated stopwatch playlist, I feel like not many people realise that it’s a mode. Also, it’s awesome and better than Objective.

Couple more issues I ran into today while playing. Two of them are just repeat of the first post. I was going to make another thread but I realized I should just repost in this one so that’s why they are listed again.

1.) Party system. Been talked about enough so I don’t have to go into detail about it. I respect that maybe Splash Damage was trying to do something different here but there system doesn’t work as well as a true party system that nearly every other game has.
2.) Raise the number of people required to start a game in all of the playlists. I created a thread about this here. I don’t want to get into a guy by myself or with one other person and have to wait for it fill up.
3.) Stopwatch should be moved to a playlist and not be a separate mode. All that is happening is nobody is playing stopwatch because they don’t know its there and its splitting it into 5 separate stopwatch playlists. This game is not popular enough to be splintering its community that wide. This game needs a limited number of playlists to gather people into the same pool of players.
4.) Rebalance between games. I thought the game was supposed to do this but I don’t think it is. I’m often going from one game to the next where one team is stacked with humans and the other team has only 1 or 2. The people in the game should be rebalanced at the completion of a match so the next game tries to even out the teams with human players.

Good suggestions solidus. Perhaps it is in the future of the game to do this. Blows it did not happen at launch but we are not back in the days of N64 where updates were not possible.

I tried Stopwatch out a couple of days ago. It was fun. Some people leave before the replay happens though, I think they may think the match is over. Too bad there wasn’t some message in between saying something like : “Now Beat the other Squad’s Time!” Or something by the announcer so that it pounds it into you that now you must be on offense or defense. Like perhaps it says DEFENSE for first match if you are Resistance, and then says OFFENSE! Just something to announce the distinction between Objective in Freeplay. Or does it do this? Perhaps I have not played Stopwatch enough to know, but it did seem like one team would leave as if it was Freeplay Objective Mode.

Excellent suggestions - I’ve never been able to play stopwatch mode due to the games always being empty, despite it sounding like the far superior mode. Failing the frontend changes you suggest, I would like to see it made the default option.

The no balancing between games thing is very frustrating. The only way to rebalance a game is for people to voluntarily join the other side which almost never happens.

Having played Brink in a party (fireteam) of 8 friends, you are not going to get some members of the party switching no matter what. And the game will not break up fireteams.
