Turtle's Barricade - Could it double as a riot shield?

(ProfPlump) #1

Just a suggestion - would it be a good idea for Turtle to be able to use his undeployed barricade as a mobile handheld riot shield? Possibly with the ability for him to fire a sidearm from while shielding himself?

I’m honestly not sure if this would be good or bad for the game - don’t slam me for it. It’s just an idea.

If you look at the shield design it does look like it could be carried, I doubt we’ll see it though (although a passive damage reduction to being shot in the back as he carries it on his back would be amusing).[/quote]

Sounds like a fun idea, no idea if it’s suited towards the faster pace of DB though.

Nope! LOL u didn’t even screw down and you dislike it GJ mates well done @ProfPlump and @Eox

You’re not going to give a reason why?

I think it’s a cool idea, if Turtle is one of the later classes to come out I’d love to see this. It would be good for both offense and defense since it could be moved, instead of locked in a single position.

I think the tactical shield is a cool idea, but probably better on someone else. Was thinking it might be good to give it to thunder to actually differentiate him from fragger. Plus concussion grenades and a tactical shield seem like a natural combo.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a tactical shield that could be used for a few seconds an an entry mechanism for other players. For example, going through the front door or charging down the long bridge leading into the barricade room on bridge. I’d prefer is Turtle couldn’t shoot if he had it up and it purely being used for defensive entry for the team as opposed to something used to win 1v1 or similar fights though.

Well ok if it’s like the wall which turtle has which from what i know can’t take dmg then it could be pretty cheap to use and get kills with. Also how much of turtle would the shield cover that’s something i want to know and can it brake?

I mean if you think of some of these details for the shield and you carefully plan out the stats it could be a grate item but still we need some details on it.

I’m not sure how I’d feel about him being able to use even a sidearm…but it’s unpredictable to say what could happen without testing.

I would say maybe being able to hit and push people with it…but with a good enough player it could almost mean immunity while they score some kills…depending on how long the shield would hold up.

(Grave_Knight) #10

I was thinking that would be cool too. But the problem is, is that’s not really fitting as an Engineer. It’s more fitting for an Assault type. Would be cool to get a Merc with an actual Ballistic Shield (also maybe name him Riot).

(aRagRappy) #11

Yeah I was definitely thinking a shield would be better for an assault too, though I still say it would make a good match for thunder probably if they trade off his lmgs for the bullet immunity from the front

(HeadStrikeR !) #12

Or let him carry it on the back and he is immune or resistant to bullets if you hit the shield on his back. That would give him a really unique twist compared to the other Mercs.

I think the idea of the riot shield doesn’t fit with the overall feel of the game as a fast paced shooter. It’s bad enough when half the team hides behind cover making liberal use of the ADS when they should be flanking and attacking. That goes for Defender and Attacker teams, too many games lost due to Defenders hiding behind the final rock at the end of Chapel for example. Only to be defeated by a single airstrike, same as either team not pushing forward even when the whole enemy team is dead. They just stand around corners . . . . waiting, for the enemy to spawn in and retake positions where they died. Players need to know that aggression is key and always flanking and moving forward when you have the advantage. A riot shield ability would only serve to “slow down” the game in my opinion.

I don’t think having the shield on the back would be good, because in FPS you can spin on a dime, so you could INSTANTLY block incoming bullets, rather than having the draw time of changing weapons to a shield.

(omegaskorpion) #15

If riot shield is slow in you oppinion then how the hell is placed cover any faster, infact if you place cover in some where you cant move at all, Turtle will be either camping which can work in defence and in objectives but when attacking the Turtle is just slowing team and him self in game modes like EV.

Now with riot shield he could be more offencive, because he could move and shoot without needing to camp behind cover. It would be great offencive tool.

Well the shield does not realy cover all hes back, it still would leave his head and legs vunerable (and possibly hands) Also the shield in his back would generaly be only usefull when enemy is attacking from behind or player is running away.
Ghost Recon Phantoms (yes that p2w game) has assault with shield on his back, the shield protects his back when its not in use and while that is 3 person shooter, people still can make realy sick turns out of nowhere, but the shield wont save them from bullets if they are face to face.

GREAT idea!
