Turtle Under powered?

(Vas56742) #1

I normally read the forums while waiting for Dirty Bomb to update or load and what I’ve been seeing a lot is chatting about Turtle not being able to compete with Fletcher, Bush and Proxy on an offensive scale or in combat. So Turtle is, if I haven’t been misinformed an S.M.G toting engineer with the ability to place down a bulletproof shield that can cover 2-3 crouched mercs and I believe this is why he might be looked down on. He is a chunkier merc but unlike Fragger, Thunder or Rhino his ability is a deployable unlike their carried Gatling-guns and grenades. So maybe some of the following things might help Turtle match the other mercs. I was thinking maybe give him A.Rs to increase combat potential or perhaps let him carry his shield like a riot shield leaving only his legs exposed. Instead reducing explosive damage within the shields radius would prevent it from being rendered useless by half the mercs that have explosives. Finally if his shield could have a constructable MG on the top, like the MG nests but weaker and took 10-15 seconds to build that would give his shield more offensive/defensive potential.

He’s not even in the game yet, and never was. How about just waiting for an official release first ?

Sorry, I Just Thought It Would Be Too Late If I Waited Till After He Was Released. Why Post Suggestions After?

Why post suggestions on something you don’t know anything about yet?

I Don’t Know, I Had Nothing Better To Do

He was in the Alpha build, but that was a long time ago, and I think he was only in it very briefly. However, he probably has undergone a rework since than, one more drastic than Phantom’s.

I have a feeling that Turtle will require some creativity and team support to make the most of his ability. I feel like there is some potential behind him just having a wall that he can deploy. Going along with others, we can only speculate until he is actually released. But I am totally stoked for his release and I plan on revealing the true power of The Wall

Side note: Vas56742’s unique capitalization of words reminds me of a certain celebrities son. Coincidence? I think not, Jaden Smith!

I play a wall in DnD, and it works there pretty well. (Fighter/psy warrior with tower sheild =33 AC, 18 touch AC and 80+ health at level 9)

@Sir_Slam I’m impressed you got to level 9!
My groups always got sidetracked somewhere around level 6 and we got stuck doing stupid sh-- in towns and frustrating the DM.

Lol our DM keeps us pretty linear, much like a classical adventure game where its really just one stage/level after another. Most of our group is way too blood thirsty for anything else, myself included sometimes. I rather enjoy being unkillable in the conventional sense. I think ill enjoy Turtle for that reason. If he comes with a defensive buff that’ll let me give the finger to the attacking team, im down with that.

Now the campaign that I DM is open world-ish, and they sometimes run off and do their own thing, but are cooperative enough not to f-uck everything up. I’ve got them on a story related leash too, that helps.

As much as I enjoy talking D&D, I’ll try to keep on track with the thread

A defensive buff or aura around the wall would be really cool, however there really are a lot of counters to using the wall just as cover. Especially if it is placed in an area where air-strikes are usable. I’m primarily worried about Fragger nades and Stoker molotovs.

I suspect that using his wall as cover would be almost as situational as Phoenix’s revive. Maybe use it to protect you while picking up an ally when a medic isn’t around or repairing the EV. It seems risky to use when planting/diffusing C4 as it could be utilized by the enemy for cover afterwards.

I predict that his wall will be largely used for funneling enemies and momentary area denial. But I’m hoping that some merc-synergy will develop with the wall, encouraging players to work together more (fat chance in pubs I know).

Im praying for defensive buffs on an AOE around the wall. IF not, maybe he’ll have access to rifles to compensate for a lack of utility that other engineers have? IF only I guess.

(JJMAJR) #15

My guess is either sniper rifles, assault rifles, or LMGs.

You Guys Used To Play (Or Still Play) D&D. Was Stuck At Level 6, I Played First Edition, Was An Elf And Focused On Support.

Last

You see comerade, enemies can’t easily body shot you, when half of body is covered by wall.

Honestly if crouching behind the wall is a viable tactic while you reload, the wall will be amazing, TOTALLY would use that in that situation.
