Turrets... oh god the turrets

(JayXombie) #1

I’m a pretty patient guy, so when I first used the turrets in this game and watched 6 enemies run past it without my turret even flinching, I kept trying to find out how one would even go about using these things efficiently.

So far, I haven’t been able to find anything that REALLY makes use of it. Close quarters don’t give it enough reaction time, long distances mean the turret won’t reach, and for SOME REASON, turrets can’t perform on high up ledges, which would be great if they could, because I could parkour to so many places for my turret.

The only situation is at a medium distance, where the target stands still for a couple seconds directly in front of the turret. Even then, I get a couple hits with the turret before it gets disabled. (ASEGFADSFGHD).

Maybe my expectations are just too high for the turrets. Are they really just meant as a means of distractions? Because that’s all they seem to be of use as. Or am I just doing it wrong.

I’m not really here to complain, so much as to get some clarification so I can actually use them properly.

Just meant to slow people down, act as a deterrent, and alarm bell. not meant to do your dirty work for you.

Fair enough.

In other words, don’t invest any ability points in it. The tier 3 SG is about as useful as the tier 1 SG.

You might find you have better luck placing your turret so that the enemy runs past them, exposing their back to it. Tucking them in corners facing away from the direction the other team is coming from can pay off. Meanwhile you act as bait, trying to pull them past the turret but make them take cover and hold position long enough for the turret to aquire a target. Also, a single mine knockdown in a turret’s line of sight will give it a chance to get a lock.

Level 3 turrets will aim up and down no problem. They are by far the best. But please continue to place them. THey are great for Operatives to place a remote control device on. Then we can manually use and fire your turrets to help the team out and spy on people who cross the turret. Again its a team game so placing turrets can be great if you have Operatives who use them too. I get plenty turret kills.

I’d show you stats but PC has no stats page

(Bittermetal) #7

Also help your turret. Fire with it. You will get a staggering number of kills.

Yeah, I’ve only unlocked the Tier 2 at this point.

And I never knew Operatives can place controls on ally turrets. Do you need to be right next to turrets in order to control it?

That’s what mines are for, they knock down the enemy so the turrets can finish them off. Works great on maps where you are trying to guard multiple objectives.

Also, consider sticking by your turret if it’s guarding a main objective, then it’s just extra firepower. The enemy will focus on you and you can repair the turret quickly if it gets damaged.

I actually think Brinks turrets are very good and one thing the devs got spot on, Im very successful with them in the right places and finishg peple off when theyre under fire by it, or placing it down while doing an objective can slow people down killing you (and no im not talking about bots but actuall ppl lol)

(mortis) #11

I use turrets as a ‘flanking buddy’ during firefights…

(wolfnemesis75) #12

You can set traps with a turret. Run around a corner if enemy are shooting at you, drop the turret. When they run around the corner takes some shots at them from behind the turret. Once they start firing, the turret will take them out. a couple of shots from you and they are down. if they try to use downfire at that point, the turret will finish them off.

No the turrets are glitched WN. Don’t deny that.

If you are too close to them they won’t notice you, and whenever it loses a target it has a cooldown period where it must wait like 5 seconds before it notices someone.

If those are balance issues, then that’s retarded.

(AmishWarMachine) #14

The real bummers to turrets, to me, are:

  1. They aim the direction you aim when setting them down. What this does, is it takes away any chance to tuck a turret tight into a corner (for added protection).
  2. Where you can place them is restricted in many places that just don’t make any sense to be restricted.

I have only those two gripes with turrets that I hope someday they could be addressed by:

  1. Allow engineers to aim the turret ONCE, right after they’ve completed setting it.
  2. Improve turret placement restriction to at least make sense

EDIT: re-worded things to sound less broken-record, and flow better

Nope you can control it from anywhere on the map.

Also you can hack and enemy turret and then put a control device on it to control. And you friends can repair your hacked turret.

(nick1021) #16

So? You’re repairing a hunk of metal just to level up.

(TwwIX) #17

It might as well not fire at all since all its purpose is to sponge up bullets.

(tangoliber) #18

They nailed the turrets in my opinion. They are extremely effective if placed well, and extremely useless if placed poorly. That’s the way turrets should be.

(ikiryou) #19

I place my turrets up high(when possible…), just enough to be within range but difficult enough to shoot/grenade without taking their time to aim. It’s a good distraction tool when placed atop something, but might as well be made of paper when it’s on the ground.

(nick1021) #20

Except they don’t let you place them effectively. And they are glitched.
