-trisoup serious question

(QESTUDENT) #1

Hi.
I have 2 serious questions about the q3map2 switch, -trisoup.

  1. What is the main usage of this?

2)Is it O.K. to type this switch at light phase? (because eraser’s q3map2 switch list seems to say so)

Thanks in advance.

I’m not certain, but I believe it’s now depricated. Mostly by -meta and -pachmeta. It seems to be a leftover from q3map.

It was a hack experiment back when I was testing stuff. It converts all brush face surfaces to MST_TRIANGLE_SOUP, nullifying lightmaps.

Thank you, phobos and ydnar for your answers.
Though what ydnar says is too complicated to understand. :disgust:

BTW, I tried typing it at light phase.
The end result(most simple case) was diagonal lines were drawn on faces of square brushes and one vertex at its center.
It seemed verts count rose up.
Is this intentionally done for vertex lighting?
Thanks in advance.

It was an experiment a long time ago.

It broke lightmaps.

Don’t use it.

Thank you rgoer for your practical reply.
Just guessing around its special usage.
Now it is clear it is useless.
