[drupal=653]Trio of Brink Interviews Thrills, Excites[/drupal]

Just ahead of next week’s E3 appearance, a trio of new Brink interviews has surfaced online. First up is GameReactor who recently managed to quiz Game Director Paul ‘Locki’ Wedgwood about all things Brink. Here’s a taster on the origins of Brink’s art style:
I started out with this vision of a photorealistic game, but that changed when Olivier joined the team. He had these ideas about more caricatured characters, that were so different from I was used to that I was probably a bit stubborn.
Elsewhere, Brink’s Creative Director Richard ‘Rahdo’ Ham continues his recent interview streak and is quizzed on PlayStation Lifestyle as well as Empire State Gamer.

From the Empire State Gamer:

“In addition to the control differences, the PC version will have dedicated servers and a server browser while the console versions will have the streamlined automatic matchmaking that players have become used to.”

I never thought I would be happy that the console versions aren’t going to have dedicated servers. The client-server model has definite drawbacks, but if the only servers available are on another continent serving gamers from all over the world, the experience is going to be less than optimal.

As a couple of examples, Valve provides the choice for L4D2: their servers or client servers. Lately, we have been hosting our own games. Their servers are abysmal. Similarly with BF:BC2 - I don’t know what has happened there, but since the Halo:Reach Beta, EA’s servers are so bad, the game is unplayable. Run 50 paces and no less than three times, you will be warped back 10 paces as you run. I don’t know what the source of the problem is because the Reach Beta has been gone for weeks now, but BC2 never returned to its former state of decent serving. Hmm…

That part amuses me, cancer sufferers are used to painful treatments… does that mean we should just stop looking for less painful, better alternatives?

So far - no plans for supporting modding, no plan for additional content after release (still hoping for female model DLC) - that didn’t sound too great…
