[TRANSLATED] SD has already plans for Brink 2 & Brink 3

(Paul) #1

For Dutch readers just read here

For English I translated:

The Londen gamestudio Splash Damage is already thinking about making Brink 2 & Brink 3, that will be released in spring 2010. The developers of Brink says that it can be made into a great franchise.

However Splash Damage is still in the middle of the development on Brink, the first game this studio makes on his own, Richard Ham was already taling about ideas on Brink 2 & 3 in an interview with Eurogamer.net

However Ham is talking about ‘big plans’ for the continuers, he didn’t said anything about what this possibly could be. But it is highly possible in this first version they will also already make sure the storyline can walk on to the other games.

The first part in this franchise offers the possibility to play in online and offline mode, where the storyline also in the onlinemodus will continue. After all both sides will be played by players, but how this system is made isn’t known yet.

English is good.

Nice to see they have high hopes for Brink. Hope they don’t rush the 2nd or 3rd ones though.

Brink 2 by 2010, hard to believe. Brink (1) itself is deadlined to Spring 2010.

But if this is true, i am waiting for SD to confirm this

Edit: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/big-plans-for-brink-2-and-3 seems it is true, but nothing about a deadline here.

I just translated it so I really don’t know :stuck_out_tongue: I hope it will be a good game but it can never be as good as ET

From the comments:

Hij zegt inderdaad iets als ‘grote plannen’ in de video, maar het antwoord van Richard is nogal uit context genomen… van het artikel van eurogamer klopt dan ook weinig.

[21:43] <MoP> is that from eurogamer yeah?
[21:43] <MoP> what a load of rubbish
[21:43] <MoP> basically richard ham said one thing and they’ve picked it up and run with it like crazy
[21:44] <MoP> if richard saying “i’d like to make 2 and 3 if possible” counts as the entire studio mapping out sequels, then yeah i guess they’re right

Posted by our very own Salteh(Balleh) !

(Edit: Translate: “He actually says something like “big plans” in the video, but the response from Richard is quite taken out of context.”)

my link above is the entire interview in English, also posted in Brink news

Who wouldn’t want to make multiple sequels to a franchise? Hopefully people realize SD has had nothing to do with Wolf 2, and will buy copies of Brink for themselves and everyone they know. I know my Oma would like to shoot some people, because she’s Belgian and pissed off making waffles all the time!

Thanks for the links guys!:stroggtapir::stroggtapir::stroggtapir:

It’s all good for me, brink it on.

While this game might still be played in individual levels and scenarios. The entire location of a floating city lends itself for a massive multiplayer online shooter. It would require lots of research but damn, that’s eventually what where all this is heading.

And from what I pried from the plot, next to resistance and security, a third faction of scientists can come into play as well. Resistance wants equality, security wants order, and the ‘science’ will justify all their actions to achieve their goal at restoring the planet trough geo-engineering.

(sigh) yeah, all I meant in this interview was to answer his question of “can a new IP like Brink compete with established franchises” with the fact that I believe Brink has what it takes to be one of the next big things, and that if it takes off, we can’t wait to do more with this universe.

Bongoboy has done SOOO much research into the “reality” of the Ark, and there’s so much depth to the overall story, plus there’s so much more to the Ark itself we can show, we’ve just basically got tons of ideas of where we could take a series next. Plus, once people actually start playing the game and feeding back, that’ll lead to lots of new ideas too. But then, that’s true for every game in production ever, really… “News flash! Game designers try to think ahead! More at eleven!”

But unfortunately it led to a lot of “pfft! Bit arrogant aren’t they? Maybe they should STFU and finish one game!” type responses on various boards. Really a bummer it went down like that. Ah well, that’ll learn me for being excited about my game.

P.S. For the record, it’s all hands on deck at Splash Damage right now to make Brink the best game it can be.

Several agencies are now working on systems to get sunlight reflected and cool off our earth. Mirror satellites, smoke artillery and even artificial vulcanic eruptions are considered in an attempt to regulate the temperature on our planet. These projects are so drastic that they cause whole new kinds of diplomatic tensions headaches between nations.

The world of durable development and environmental problematique is so vast and weird it makes me wonder why no other developer seriously looked into it.

The creepy part of this is that instead of recreating conflicts like WOII, Vietnam and Gulf, developers can now also make games about conflicts that are likely to come up in the future.
