Tram.... continued......

(_NeT_WalBanger) #1

Ok last time i posted about Tram map being made i got shoot down for it being illegal etc etc etc…

Well here you go, i senbt Email to them asking for permission anbd this is the reply:-
So plz can we get the map started???

Further to your correspondence of 15 September 2004

Unfortunately we do not have any input over what goes into the game here at tech
support, but I do not see any reason why any mappers would not be able to make
an ET map based around the aforementioned TRAM map. The RtCW map editor should
normally come with various textures and objects that let you build your maps and
as far as I am aware there should be no reason against making an ET version of
the TRAM map as long as you do not financially benefit from it.

Activision does not provide support for the map editor

Activision also does not provide support for content created using the editor.
As the editor is freely available to anyone who would like to use it there is a
great variance in the quality of content. Both experts and novices will be using
these tools and releasing maps, skins or even complete mods to the game. Some
will work, some will not. If you have questions regarding any content you’ve
downloaded from the internet you will need to direct them to the author.

Well I must admit; You are the first one actually emailing activision asking for permission about converting a rtcw-map to ET.
There are allready some decompiled rtcw maps out like mp_ice, mp_beach, mp_village etc… But they never (to my knowledge) asked for permission…
I give you credit for that!..

(_NeT_WalBanger) #3

Well i never doubted the fact that they would let you as it perlongs their game…

of course it would be different if you were making money, but the mappers arnt

The legal depart is who you’d need permission from, not Tech Support. You’re doing the right thing, now let’s get the same permission from the right people

(]UBC[ McNite) #5

Well I’d say you emailed to the wrong ppl… cuz u emailed the tech support. I m pretty sure they don’t know anything about what activision allows about their maps and what not.
And you can read in his answer that he doesn’t really get the point of your question whether its ok to rip off the map or not. He s only talking about whether mappers might be able to do it (and we all know that mappers are), and he sees no reason against ripping it of.

But what you need is an explicit “YES YOU ARE ALLOWED TO CONVERT THIS MAP”, and you need it from the right ppl, not from tech support. Nothing else is relevant. Sorry.

Damnit If you beat me by 1 minute :bump: :bump: :bump:

(cementoske) #7

Lolz, I also had that mail, but i’m converting X-labs from the RTCW SP now

(_NeT_WalBanger) #8

Right that is Activision… the company… so they have given you permission…

But i will try even further if yo want, costing me a fortune on phone

(Ifurita) #9

I read that as “cementoske got the same e-mail from tech support” which basically amounts to an “I have no idea what you’re talking about shrug” from whoever answers tech support questions.

(CrazedFan) #10

In the next few weeks, my Tram map will be out. I admit it is totally different, but it does have a tram

Thanks,

-A

About having a tram in the map: I got one too in my soon-to-come-map. But, alas, the map has nothing in common with tram either :bump:

(Oxygen - o2) #12

is there an end to this madness

if u get permssion then you can make it and see what happens, me, im gona crank up good 'ol RTCW and play classing tram

(No1_sonuk) #13

I don’t remember the IP, but Pappa’s Tram is a UK-based Tram-only RtCW Shrub server.
Check out the website at http://www.pappadee.com

WRT contacting Activision, perhaps tracking down Hellchick (Caryn Law is her real name, I think) is the way to go. If she doesn’t know the answer, she’ll find out.

Right that is Activision… the company… so they have given you permission…

But i will try even further if yo want, costing me a fortune on phone

You are along the right tracks, but you’ve not got the permission you require.
As Iffy points out, you need a responce from the people who have the authority - IE their legal department.
Tech support clearly has no idea what you are on about (not your fault, it’s just a trademark of tech support departments the world over!).

It’s not ‘what we want’, it’s ‘what you need’.

It’d be like me asking 1 person from Microsoft if I can copy Windows and he replies ‘it’s possible’. Does this mean Microsoft allow the copying of their software for free? Of course not, it just means I asked the wrong person and he gave me the wrong reply. It’s not like Microsoft’s policy would change because one tech support guy didn’t know what I was on about :frowning:

Keep going, you are nearly there I’m sure

(_NeT_WalBanger) #15

I rang them up today and the guy said it was ok to… again so long as we arent making money from it…

(]UBC[ McNite) #16

You need that on a sheet of paper, together with the name of the guy and his signing… nothing else counts (ok maybe apart from an official email signed by their legal department). Sorry.

Don’t give up net walbanger!
I know it must sound really negative, but you’ve come this far.
Mcnite is right, you need something in writing with a name and signature to it. Then you are set to go and your dream shall be realised
