Trade-in: make the result certain!

(Runeforce) #1

Suggestion: keep the fees, but make the result certain.

(cornJester) #2

To clarify, assuming you mean certain loadout?

(Runeforce) #3

Both skin (variants in tier) and loadout.

(gg2ez) #4

It would be nice but this is exactly how you would get a lack of variation in game. Groups of people would lean towards certain loadouts and new players will consistently choose the easier loadouts.

Whilst being able to choose your skin is good, removing RNG from loadouts isn’t a good idea.

(Ferrett321) #5

i personally dont mind the RNG element. If there was no RNG i would have all the loadouts i want.

(Runeforce) #6

Personally, I also don’t mind the RNG by trading-up, it’s even a bit of fun, but if I were to exchange three gold (or higher) plus a hefty credit fee for a new gold card, I’d like to choose my result, simply because of the matters of destruction that is involved.

(MarsRover) #7

Heh, “element”. Trade ins are 100% RNG. You have zero influence, you can’t pick anything. There is no non-RNG element.

(riptide) #8

Yeah, RNG is what keeps people playing an FPS instead of an RPG! /s

(Rjsto) #9

Something else entirely, as in: nah

(Runeforce) #10

That is sort of what I figured. But if you could expand on that ‘nah’, I’d be very happy.

It’s not good idea to remove the rng completely, it would really lower the value of the good loadouts on high tier cards in my eyes. Like, pretty much completely

What’s this value you speak of? A false sense of accomplishment when RNG is on your side, or the much more common feeling of disappointment when it’s against you? The amount of RNG even when paying money is ridiculous. ***** this kind of “value”.

I can understand value of skins that you get:

  • by paying money for exactly what you want - you support the game,
  • by accomplishing something ingame - you are a dedicated player that makes the game more enjoyable for others.

(Runeforce) #13

What I am asking myself, why are so many people playing devils advocates…? Leave that shit to MissMurder. After all, she’s the only one getting paid.

(KattiValk) #14

I wouldn’t mind this. It might seem to take a lot of the diversity out, but remember how expensive it is to get three of a kind. If they made it so you could choose your skin and kit in exchange for 1/3 or greater (plus credit change) value then I wouldn’t complain.

(retief) #15

If you make the results certain, you would have to significantly increase the fees. Currently, buying a specific bronze loadout costs 17.5k credits, while trading up from lead costs 2.5k credits. Allowing people to pick the loadout when they trade up without changing the cost would make direct buying loadouts completely worthless.

Honestly, the current system works fine (at least for credits). If you don’t want to worry about rng, you can direct buy your loadout of choice for credits and be done with it. If there are several loadouts you would be happy with, trading up can potentially save you some credits. Sure, spending credits on silver+ loadouts gets ridiculous very fast, but many games only let you buy skins for real money. Letting you get all standard skins for in game currency is already pretty damn generous by free to play standards, even if the rates are rather extortionate.

The only thing I have a problem with is the rng on real money cases. Spending real money on cases that are almost always completely worthless is a bad idea. That said, the only people SD is potentially hurting is itself. Players can completely ignore real money cases with no ill effects. If SD wants to bank on a smaller number of whales instead of incentivizing people to spend reasonable amounts of money on cosmetics, they can do so. I think they would make more money if they let people direct buy specific silver/gold loadouts for $10/$25, but they can shoot themselves in the foot if they want to.

Edit: didn’t see trade IN in op’s post. My point still stands, though limiting it to trade in makes the prices a bit more reasonable.

My proposal, allow a part of the shop that allows you to buy ANY loadout card in silver, gold, or cobalt, but it has to be 3 of a certain merc.

So I could get a Cobalt M62 Fragger for 3 Fragger Cobalt cards, and maybe a small credit charge.

(SiegeFace) #17

Can’t we focus on the gameplay side of things first before we get into arbitrary discussion about cosmetic items.

@Watsyurdeal
i’m not quite sure how i feel about that, honestly i would be more fond of it if it was 2 cobalt Fraggers, and 1 gold of the card you wanted to get.

Why,what fucking sense does that make?

You gamble 3 times and get unlucky, now you can trade in those 3 for what you really wanted, if it’s cobalt for example, that’s 30000 credits plus worth of work, it’s more than fair.
