Too many mercs with ammo and area denial ability

I say too many… I mean all of them. Arty has ammo packs and artillery, Skyhammer has ammo packs and air strike, Stoker has ammo station and molotovs and Kira (where ever she has gone) had ammo station and orbital laser. I just think that is a little strange that there are no mercs (at the moment) with ammo and another style of ability.

Though I had a kind of cool idea for a merc as a result. I was thinking how having a 2 handed riot shield would be cool for attacking (but wait for it) and an ammo rucksack that dispenses ammo to people standing behind the shield. eh? no… fine. Still think the whole ammo and area denial ability should be looked at though.

Yeah it’s mostly down to SD’s roots where fields was the logistics class. IE ammo and area denial.

I think you raise a good point though. Ammo and Area Denial are the first things that come to mind when you think about ‘logistics’ but there’s far more to it. Logistics means protecting the team, preventing harm (rather than curing it), making sure all routes stay open and command posts are up. Logistics means better communication about what’s going on in the team and preferably connecting that with the recon information of the snipers.

So yeah, once more, I agree, a fields ops can be much more than that. Even though anything I can think of right now is really hard to implement in a balanced way.

I think some kind of deployable cover could be neat ability if done right.

I think its because the “Merc” system is not really a merc system. Its just a very limited loadout selection at the moment. I really wish this was more of a Moba style of Merc selection. Instead it feels like 5 classes with a couple of options with each. Heck, 5 classes and loadout options would give many more options then we have currently.

We’re going to be adding more variety as we go, what we have right now is the way it is because it’s grown out of an earlier time where we had classes.

I kinda expect that already, more so because of Phantom, Sparks and Rhino. However, I think the fear I have is because of “balance” and the fact its one new Merc at a time, I cannot see you giving anyone anything cool…

I want, Phoneix with a healing wave or the ability to res everyone on the map (friend and foe) once every 3 min. Want a stoker that can walk though the gas cloud cause of his mask and have a clip of flame rounds ever 40 seconds. Let Aura take more time when putting down her healing station but once its down you can reclaim and it goes on her back making her really an aura. Give proxy the ability to defuse at a slower rate but at a 10 feet distance so she can hide away from air strikes on victoria. Heck go crazy and have a Recon with a deployable radar dish that is the same size as an ammo station but with the same range as the motion sensor. Give turtle a 5 second EMP that disables the entire enemies abilities for 5 seconds.

lol I don’t know…
just the kinda stuff I would have expected out of this Merc system. Like… I wanna see you guys go balls deep! lol

yeh its just occurred to me that they are all carrying assault/battle rifles too even if some are single fire or burst fire. But yay for more variety!

Smoke artillery, tear gas grenades and blinding flares would be perfect field ops equipment.

Also permanent area denial. Like a sound emitter that makes the player’s screen shake (but not too severe) and make them walk a bit slower once they enter it’s range. Shouldn’t be as bad as concussion nades. Just annoying enough that it is a deterrent from that location.

I love AoE and AoD!

as long as the ability that defines the merc impacts the game in a way only that merc can do I’m happy.
