Too long to get trinkets?

(ImSploosh) #1

Is it just me, or does it take too damn long to get the trinkets for the event? Seems like we’re in the same situation as last year, except this time there’s nothing else to play for. At least with last year we were able to obtain cards as well which gave a bit more incentive.

I played my life away last year, but like many others, I have things to do. I’m a diehard fan of Dirty Bomb too. I play daily for a good 2 hours generally. However, it appears like this isn’t enough. I heard the grind is a little less this year, but it’s still too much.

Also, can someone do the math and calculate how many hours it takes to obtain all of the trinkets? I would do it, but I’m not sure of the credit gain per minute and if the humbugs are just a straight 20% from the credit gain (strictly for gameplay and not including missions/daily bonuses).

Already done it.

Mathematically, if you earned ONLY the base 12 credits per minute (2.4 Humbugs per minute) with no modifiers, if would take 2000 minutes or 33.333 hours to get the 4800 Humbugs for the 4 trinkets.
Because there are those modifiers, lets assume 15.6 credits per minute, which means 3.12 Humbugs per minute. That’s about 1538 minutes or just over 25.6 hours.
It’s worth noting that these are times spent on servers, not time in game. There’s a lot of time spent in lobby that means time spent in game (as tracked by steam) will be higher.

It’s 20% of your BASE FEE. That is whatever is calculated by the game at the end of match using the values in the link above, not the BASE RATE of 12credits/min.

As an owner of last years’ Snowman, I don’t find the grind as extreme, but it does feel a bit more pointless without other event stuff. I was going to play a lot anyways though.

30 hours seems about right. I play a lot and have all four. The idea i guess is to get peeps to play longer so it works in that respect. If you only play for trinkets then you probably need another game. The game is fun fast and furious…The trinkets are just icing on the cake!!!

One of the things I was disappointed in was that humbugs made playing in servers with a low amount of players almost pointless. I can’t always find almost full servers, sometimes I have to join 4v4 or even 3v3, and the 10 humbugs I get for spending a full 12 minutes in those games isn’t even worth it anymore, really.

I’d personally rather it be time based like last year, but oh well. I’ll end up getting the Doge trinket anyways, I just need about 150 humbugs a day for the rest of the event. I haven’t been playing DB that much with all the other games I got on the winter sales.

Thanks for doing the math! It just feels like it’s taking much longer than last year. Probably in part due to DB crashing too often (toward end of games especially) and the lack of another incentive.

Yeah, that’s the other thing. I don’t get why they changed it to a currency. That was pointless. It was better time-based. The currency would have been kinda cool if there was another part to this event, like special cases.

I guess it was supposed to be used to give added incentive in the form of bonus credits after people got all the trinkets, but the grind was so long that it wasn’t really relevant.

Just jumping in here to say that boosters have no effect on humbug earn rate. It was stated in a dev video/post that humbugs are earned at the base credit rate before boosters are applied.

(crispyOpal) #9

I got them all in about 30 hours, you need to play a little more on average than 1 hours a day. It’s a little high considering the lack of other content cough noloudouts cough they most likely needed to get some required game time in on our little baubles.

(ImSploosh) #10

Wish they did. They should. Reward those players who have been consistently playing the game, regardless of any event. :wink:

(doxjq) #11

@Sploosh have you checked how many humbugs you get every game? I’ve had quite a few games where I don’t get what I’m supposed to.

I’ve had a 20 minute stopwatch game where I got 9 humbugs, and a handful of 12-15 minute objective games where I only got 20-30 humbugs.

I haven’t been able to put my finger on what causes it. They said the rate was 20% of your credits, but it appears to be bugged from time to time. The 20 odd minute stopwatch game I had, I think my base credits fee was something like 280, and I received 9 humbugs (when it should have been approximately 55-60), so I dunno.

I do use the server browser. US West is usually dead for the most part whenever I’m able to get on.

Saw your thread about it days ago. I kept checking after games, but sometimes I just don’t pay attention. I’ve been checking after most games. This might be the reason why it feels like it’s taking so long. I’ve experienced some games where I only got around 20 humbugs and they were 15 minutes at least. I’ll keep checking as I start to play more. Really don’t want to end up missing out on 2 trinkets! It would help if the crashes were fixed. :frowning:

(Dagasawr) #15

To be honest the only thing I don’t like about the trinkets is that its such a jump in humbugs between dat boi and the tree going from 1000 to 3500 just makes it seem so much longer.

(DaaDog) #16

M8 that’s nothing compared to last year where it was like 4 > 12 > 60 hours xD

Touche xD but i actually did the full 60 hours last time but now I cant because I have to work :frowning:

(Szakalot) #18

@Dox have you played with less than 10players on the server?

the less players below 10 the slower credit earn rate, and subsequently less humbugs

(kittz0r) #19

better give them right away so people dont have to play 2 hours… geez

(AlphaUT) #20

It is just a really basic calculation. A little bit messy, but I think it’s understandable.

123020% = 72

3500/72 = 48.611

48.611*30 = 1458.33 min

1458.33/60 = 24.3 hours.

12 = base credit

30 = 30 minutes games

20% = the information SD given to us of what’s the earn rate of your humbug.

72 is the max number you could revive in a 12 credit per minutes game, without the effects by the winning or score.

3500 is the goal.

48.611 is the number that you need play in a 12 credit per minute game. Without any other factors.

60 = 60 minutes.

The only one thing that I take into this basic calculation is the number of players in the game that will result in 12 credits per min, which is the 16 players I believe.

Winning and score will in fact, effect your earning rate, positive way. I have cases of earning 80+ humbug.
