So, I’ve downloaded today’s hotfix and I was really surprised when I saw the size - 126.6 MB.
Also, I’ve encountered this post on tumblr from dirtybomb devs about them working on reducing update sizes.
I’m not sure if these improvements were already used, but if I remember correctly, most of these small hotfix updates were about 800 MB. That means size reduced by about 80%.
This is one of the less noticable change for some users, but huge for those with worse internet speeds.
And I personally think it’s awesome!
Also check out that Tumblr I mentioned before, theres some [url=“http://dirtybombgame.tumblr.com/post/144907188611/gallery-is-coming-on-rather-nicely-the-first”]very cool stuff
Today's hotfix size was...smaller than before.
All they really added was Coalsplitter and the ability to get an arsenal crate 1/10 of the time instead of an equipment case.
Yeah, but how UE3 default works is that there are these giant game pack files that contain everything from game code to sound files and even setting (.ini) files. So, even if you only had 1 .ini file to update with one setting change, you’d still need to replace the whole pack file as there is no way to patch it. So even small changes for DB have been large updates because of this and it would appear they are not only working on but have succeeded in separating assets out into smaller packs.
Believe me or not, but this was 800MB+ too

I had no idea that was how it all worked. Thanks for the info.
The 10% chance to get an Arsenal Crate actually doesn’t need any updates, they only need to restart the game stats or something.
The only thing that was added is the Coalsplitter trinket, and maybe they did some other stuff without telling us (like bug fixes on rare tiny things that people barely notice and don’t matter too much)
