To snap or not to snap

There are quite a few things I’ve found in the SDK that have their origins and sometimes their deltas snapped. Sometimes both are snapped, sometimes only one or the other.

It’s obvious what snapping the vectors do, but I’m curious as to why the inconsistency? The clear advantage is that you save bandwidth (as is prominently said in comments) while you lose precision. With player movement snapping can have major effects either way. I’m looking for information in the general sense though, more for non-player ents. Why does its usage differ so much and why or why wouldn’t you snap under what circumstances?
