I always patch right away. I have no complaints about the new patch, and servers are a-plenty. Just use All Seeing Eye, I can see 250+ servers with v1.02 under ping 200, so above that ping are even more.
About problems with heavily configged games, I kinda agree. If done properly custom configs will have no effect with patching. One thing I did notice though is that my game has gotten a lot slower, which I personally blame on all the custom maps and server configs. You should see my etmain dir, it’s messier than my bedroom!

Why you shouldn’t patch? The patch only fix things, people always thinks patches are bad or something?! At Rtcw, i was always happy when a new patch was released. (jeah i checked every day 
)
