To All Mappers and Modders... [LONG but interesting]

Hi Guys,

I think that all mappers and modders than work on ET should regroup in a single entity. I think we should :

  • create a unique site, the ET Mod Site, where all our creations would be centralized, displayed and distributed and where our knowledge could be easily shared.

  • create a ET Mod IRC Channel, where we could meet to discuss, team together and create…

  • Set up a FTP server to share files.

Maybe the best place would be PlanetWolfenstein as sock suggested in a thread.

MAPPERS

Instead of making your maps alone, we should discuss and make small teams that work on complete campaigns of 3 or more maps and coordinate the campaigns to prevent making maps that are similar.

ET features 3 campaign settings :

  • North Europe (winter setting) : FuelDump,
  • Central Europe (spring setting) : Radar
  • North Afrika : Goldrush, Oasis,

I suggest that we create 3 Teams, one for each setting.

CODERS

Maybe we could find a way to mod ET, I read the topic about wrapping DLLs with interest. We could create a Research Team of coders, which aim would be to discover how to mod ET. You could serach how to :

  • tweak XP System
  • add weapons
  • add new skills
  • add classes
  • etc …

3D Modelers

You could replace all weapons in the game with more accurate ones.

2D ARTISTS

We could :

  • graphicaly rework the game interface (i’ve started already)
  • rework the HUD
  • skin the new weapons
  • create additional textures at mapper requests

OBJECTIVE :

Make a unique large mod for ET, that regroups :

  • all maps in full campaigns
  • all possible modifications

into a SINGLE PACK that servers would run.

This would make of the mod a MUST HAVE that would prove our professionalism and would provide more weight when dealing with SD.
If the mod is successfull, it could be officialized by SD and we could be granted source code (we still can dream about it)

What I already worked on :

  • I’ve started changing ET interface (menus, HUD, icons, cursor…)
  • I can provide teams hundreds of additional textures I made for Path to Victory and other ww2 projects.

What I can provide to the mod :

  • tons of info on ww2 Commando Raids which are the perfect setting for ET maps. I’ll post info and 2D maps about my first campaign idea, Operation Chariot, in a separate thread.

  • tons of reference materials on ww2 : site links, pictures,… which could be stored on the ftp for mapper and artist reference.

  • hundreds of ww2 tga textures

  • good ww2 knowledge

Heh… Yeah, I tried this once with RTCW… not saying it won’t work, but herding cats would be far easier :slight_smile:

Sure it may be hard but that will worth the pain.
You too could start by joining. If some ppl join at first, then other will follow… Hummer you’re an accomplished mapper, that would be cool to work with you.
My Operation Chariot campaign would be cool to map.
Plus sharing a full pool of new textures would prevent ET maps to all look the same. ET textures are not numerous…

actually there are already some groups coming together, after having finished our current project we at wolfproject will start an ET campaign as well (when we are finished… you know it can take some time… :wink: )

Position: Mapper (still very fresh to the scene) Website Design FTP/IRC hosting 24/7 (most of the time)
Experience: created numerous game websites know vb and java scripting

I can host ftp/irc server and design the website since I have a lot of html skills, might do some little maps or work for prefabs for those more experinced mappers. I dunno if u would want me since i started mapping like 5 days ago :wink: but my html skills could be handful at start and I know a lot about FTP/IRC stuff
