Tips on phantom

At the current state, he’s technically an assault merc, not a stealth or recon merc.

Use primary weapons as a main way of killing enemies, never use katana only, cause there are no backstab mechanics. You can only use melee as a last resort.

Refractive armor doesn’t make you invisible at all, it’s easily noticeable, so treat it as an EMP wave, to get past the mines and deployables, not as Predator’s cloak to stalk victims like in the Predator movie.

As far as loadout cards go:

Use the ones with gunfight friendly augments: like double time, drilled, etc.

As for the primary weapons go:

Blishlok can pack a good punch, if you figure out it’s reacoil/spread and aim for the head.
Kek is like SMG version of Timik, it’s good if you fire in burst (the overall logic of AK 47 in vidoe games)
Crotzni is something in between.

And most important part: He’s a GIMMICKY merc, just like Fat Scout Rhino. You only play him for fun and messing around.

Phantom right now is one of the weakest mercs in the game, if you are having trouble playing him it is because his abilty is not very useful in its current state. But i do recommend that you try to focus on a hit and run playstyle, where you go into enemy territory, kill one or two people, destroy dome deployables, cloak and run away. It is quite effective in pubs, but in ranked, not so much. It used to be more effective, but sibce the armor went under a cooldown nerf, this playstyle was hit hard.

(remarkableBusiness) #4

Yeah thx guys i do feel he needs reworking ill use some of these tips and see how it goes

(remarkableBusiness) #5

I use the bl93 i think undercover drilled and double time is that any good

(BananaSlug) #6

i use bl93 in iron, it very cool card, i just dont like double time. I like to crouch and wait for enemy to pass you (camp on one way from enemy spawn(if you stand still average player won’t notice you)). ignore the emp in most situations.

The strong thing about phantom is that you can choose when to attack enemy, and that with blishlok and well picked enemy means kill with out even getting hit in most situations.

play on stopwatch (both teams spawn in the same moment) to see when to expect enemies going from spawn (small counter in top left corner) and save your armor cd

but here comes the bad part, phantom got nerfed and usually you can go invisible every 7/10s

(remarkableBusiness) #7

What are some good loadouts for him?

(remarkableBusiness) #8

Oh i didn’t know about that nerf thanks for telling me that

Phantom is really hard to see when he is not moving, and even then a lot of people don’t hear you, so if you crouch and wait you can do some pretty effective ambushes. I have seen people actually run into phantoms not realizing that there is one standing in front of them until its too late. He can be a really good defender too, I have sat on objectives and people will run up and not notice you most of the time and you can get some good katana kills on the lower health mercs. ^^

(remarkableBusiness) #10

Yeah i do sit on objectives alot but i usually find my k/d being very low like 10/25 or 12/36 sometimes even as low as 5/20. I have some friends who play phantom and they get like 35+ kills going katana only. Ive asked them for tips but they dont seem to work. Whrn i spectate them i try and in depth telly my self what they are doing and when i try it out i usually end up getting rekt

(SaulWolfden) #11

The single most important thing, don’t always run around with a katana trying to be cool, use your guns, in fact it’s smarter to shoot from stealth than to stab from stealth since you’re more likely to hit your targets with bullets rather than a sword.

(remarkableBusiness) #12

Lol yeah. I usually run with my katana but then switch to my primary when trouble is around

(Naonna) #13

Standing still makes you super hard to see, but your noise level doesn’t go down much. Finding a card with Sneaky on it will make your armor quieter. Food for thought.

Thanks

Don’t listen to all these naysayers. Katana phantom is what the RNG gods intended. Just never sprint when you’re cloaked, and crouch if you’re dangerously close to an enemy. Always remember to right click squishies and left click higher hp mercs. Jumping side to side makes you much harder to hit too. Just remember to know when to back away when shit hits the fan.

(Dysfnal) #16

Legitimately though, as @SirSwag stated; NEVER sprint while cloaked. I owe my Phantom god-like to that tip. I personally disagree with the people who say that you should only use katana as a last resort, you certainly shouldn’t use it as a primary, but I found slashing more reliable in very close ranges.

(TheStrangerous) #17

Would someone post a video or screenshot comparison of Phantom’s cloak visibility?

(remarkableBusiness) #18

Thanks for the tips guys I’ve found myself getting a bit better from these tips
