Tiger Tank Texture & Model Criticism

(Pegazus) #1

Hello. In a couple of days Capuzzo Airport will reach it’s 1 year mark and as a celebration or birthday gift for it I have decided to release this model for the community. It’s not yet 100% ready but it will be eventually by the right date. But in the mean time enjoy looking at these photos and feel free to give ideas & criticism to improve the model. I’l consider all suggestions so feel free to give advice.

A bit information about the model in discussion
Country - Germany
Max speed - 38km/h
Type - Heavy Tank
Production - 1942–1944
Texture - North Africa & Suitable also with mainland Italy
Division - Afrika Korps - Tapir Division

Release date for this should be hopefully on July 26.
Also if there are animators out here who got a bit of free time I could need your help. I sadly can’t animate.

Comment away ! :slight_smile:

Woohoo, that’s very nice :eek:
Thumbs up man :slight_smile:

I’d like to help you on this part :slight_smile:
But you can use Q3modeltool to compile multiple md3 models into one animated md3:rolleyes:

Tapir win :stroggtapir:

Tank looks great, it would be awesome if it’s escortable

one of the very few forum entries from a user where you can be sure of that his skill is NOT FAKE.

congratz. i think its a nice model. it really fits et i think! great work!

and to all who are basing their work on professional work, here is where you can take an example from. pegazus surely deserves more credit than any of you, faking and upgrading your reputation by means of FAKE FAKE AND AGAIN FAKE. i could certainly visit a thread opend in the last week period, but i dont care about a 15 year old child.

and i will certainly have to destroy the one or other here in this forum if he doesnt learn. there are still people who didnt get it. sorry pegazus but had to be said again :slight_smile:

greetings =)

Tapir rules :stroggtapir:

I could help with animations just in case you have not any other alternative :smiley:
The point is if you want the best performance (then ask others)… or if you only want to make it run. Cause I only have released… psss… 5 or 6 animations.

(BackSnip3) #10

:eek: the forum masked avenger is back!:smiley:
I’m afraid cause I’m a 15 year old boy:(

(ronboy) #11

Awesome tank. :stroggbanana:

Good work Pegazus.

@ aaa4 - not everyone in here has the ambition of doing ARTWORK - just have fun on their own turms.
So dont spoil that with “your” truth.

(nukits) #13

Very nice tank have you made :slight_smile: Tapir win lol :stroggtapir::stroggtapir::stroggtapir:

(Fluffy_gIMp) #14

Looking cool!

One little trick we used to use for texturing the tank models in WolfET (way before the need to highpoly model and then normal map details) was to scan model kit components of tanks and then work them into the texture. Model kits are incredibly detailed and so are perfect reference for all the little components you might otherwise miss.

Then after that we’d give the kit to Bongoboy and he’d painstakingly build us all the tanks to play with :slight_smile:

magic. i by no means wanted to open another discussion on that. i am sure pegazus wouldnt like it, although i know he would agree with most of the stuff i say.

i also think you didnt really grasp of what i meant to say.

it was not about artwork magic, nohohoh, that would be to easy. i even said it in my recent post. read it.

(IndyJones) #16

don’t worry magic - everybody in 1933 was thinking of hitler as a serious person.

honestly - the only thing i like about this tank is the textures - the model itself is a bit ‘cocky’ and ‘squarish’.

just cause i can’t make a better one by myself doesn’t i can’t say ‘bad’ things :slight_smile:

(Pegazus) #17

Thanks guys for all the comments ! It helps me keep motivated.

@aaa4
Thanks m8, it has been a long path to get this far and there are still improvements and more lessons to see :slight_smile: Hopefully the next model will be even better.

@Fluffy_gIMp
Thanks for the suggestion, I gave my best to try it out and hopefully the new detail looks good. I wish I could use Bongoboys help, hehe, I could learn a lot.

@IndyJones
Well considering that the game engine is quite limited I did my best to give it a similar look to Tiger Tanks. Also the tank itself has to be a squarish since that is how it is made.

Anyhow here are a few new photos to show the progress. The changes are noticable, at least the big ones.

Sadly the images suffer from a bit blurriness.

About the animations. The tank has to be animated. It needs a starting animation, ending animation and a fire animation. The wheels also need animations but the tracks can be done by shader, same way like SD did.

(UJERebel) #18

Could you make the final gas pipes ( the thing at the back :slight_smile: ) not so black, maybe a bit more shape? =)

very nice tough

(shagileo) #19

Details are nicely done.

Maybe a small suggestion: the exhaust grid on top of the tank at the back (at least I think it’s an exhaust grid- 'cause I ain’t no tank expert :smiley: )
could you make it less flat? - like the jagdpanther model, the exhaust grid comes out of the back a bit

pss… don’t know if I’m clear enough, but the model is nice anyways

(AlphaRed12) #20

Unfortunately I don’t know my Tiger tanks xD. Although I think the front looks really boxy, I thought it would be more angled liked the Panther. I think some of those details on the texture could be modeled without killing the polycount too much. I’d have to research a bit more about the Tiger to give you good model crits but it does have the overall look of a Tiger.

Now onto the texture. It looks really bland and needs some more varying colours. Is there any diffuse lighting or did you just overlay an AO map on the texture? If you don’t mind, I can try my hand at texturing it. Just send me the model.
