Thoughts on the playerbase numbers?

For a while, DB has have less active players. I think over the last 2 months we’ve lost 2k concurrent players.

But, the 5k that we have right now seems really solid. The community seems stronger and the negativity on forums and social media seems more diluted and less ridiculous. I’ve seen a couple of more common faces and have had much more fun solo pub play in the last few weeks than I’ve had since Open Beta launch.

Thoughts on this?

Keep in mind it is more than 5K players, it’s at least 5K players at almost any time. So there are way more than 5K frequent players.

It’ll likely rise as more maps and mercs are added, and the anti cheat is tinkered with to a tee so comp mode can be worth it again.

Just give it time

Yeah it seems consistent and as the game improves and gets closer to final it should increase.

What I find odd is why people are so interested. I could understand people being concerned if it was impossible to find a full server but otherwise I’m not sure why anyone outside of SD/Nexon cares

My main curiosity over the player numbers is how the game is doing as far as being free to play goes. I don’t think it’s well monetized at all. The starter pack is good, but you encounter people who earn enough credits to buy a couple of mercs before they decide they’re serious about the game, and then they don’t want to buy the starter pack since they already have certain mercs. The bundles were a nice idea, but still limiting if you already own one of the three, and then elite cases which don’t really get you anything that desirable (opinion based!)

So as I said, I’m curious whether the current player numbers are supporting the game. I think the actual number is fine, and will hopefully start growing a bit as more stuff is added. I don’t think many forum goers have much to go on as to whether the numbers are actually any good so far, I guess that’s Nexon’s forte.

@Backuplight I imagine they are doing just fine. They wouldn’t send dirty cups 1500 dollars if they were having troubles with money.

If you’re lucky it’ll be full size.

People come people go.

1500 bucks for a Dirty Cup is not an indicator of anything.
Its a PR thing, you have to spend some to get some. And considering how much game development cost nowadays, its pennies.
Major publishers spend 100 times more to buy positive reviews on garbage they are producing.
Plus, again, nowadays, no1 will take seriously game that doesnt have somekind of tournaments going on periodically. Even if amount of participants is ridiculous. Its a thing on itself.

Certainly not dead, still enough people to pew-pew. Let’s just not pretend like 5k concurrent players is a sign of a massive success for a f2p game, regardless of any flung up “beta”-shields.

Both of these posts are pretty accurate/well said imo. Not much to add really. I think it’s a pretty good game overall and if the new anti-cheat pans out it will see some moderate growth in the future.

Looking at the same page I can see we are still a fair bit above (or close to) the likes of Planetside 2, Call of Duty, ESO (steam version), Archeage and many more… all of these very successful online games, so I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

The only time I start to worry about a game “dying” is when it looks like this… http://steamcharts.com/app/338170#All

Good game :c May it rest in peace. ;-;

Yo, I have a lot of fun in Sonic & All Stars Racing (Poor man’s Mario Kart). 225 people max on Saturday! I mean… what defines dead? Archeage is dead to me, for instance.

Yeah was looking at it in a similar way and its actual not that bad, outside of the behemoths that is TF2 and the CS variants, the only multiplayer focused games that I could spot that are doing better than DB right now are COD black ops 2 multi, and the Arma series (tho I wouldn’t count them since their target audience is quite different).

Everything else is behind DB (atleast on SteamDB). Thats pretty good IMO.
In the end it all depends on what Nexon/SD had targeted, but I kinda doubt that the plan was to dethrone CSGO and TF2 in one big swoop (If it was I’d suggest to ease up on the hard drugs before buisness meetings  ).

Anyways I think 3k - 5k at any given moment is good enough for now. I think If Nexon/SD keeps it a bit lowprofile for now and work hard on changing/fixing all the QoL stuff that puts people even tho they like the gameplay, I’d wager they have a good chance of retaining more players, when they do some more targeted promotion stuff in a couple of month.

(Ardez1) #17

I’d love to see some CS:GO streamers/youtubers throwing DB up on their page once more kinks have been worked out of the Anti-cheat and several more fine-tuning patches come out. Right now it is too soon to expose the game that much(if having markiplier post it proved anything, it was that).

(Fiktio) #18

Having around 5 K players in game at any given time is actually pretty fine.
I would be more worried if the player amount would drop under 3 K in total in a month, globally.

(LifeupOmega) #19

And this is you talking, the #1 income flow for Splash Damage

But yeah, on topic, it’s nice to see we’ve got a few thousand playing - that’s really good. I’ve played games with far few, we’re talking maybe a couple hundred or less, in the past so I won’t be complaining!

We’ll likely see more and more players sticking when we get more of the mercs and more maps coming out (Dome and Dock eh?) too.

(tulipRowboat) #20

As long as I have a few servers with people in them to play in I’m fine.
