This will be my first post here, I want to get more into the DB community as a whole. I may as well start here.
I’ve come to notice that a lot of people dislike Thunder, rather it be due to his concussion grenades or his large health pool/hitbox.
Personally, he’s my favorite merc to play, but he definitely has a lot of downsides.
He’s super sluggish, and his hitbox is the size of a truck. This makes him very tricky to play, since you want to go in and just mow everyone down, but you’re just such a big, slow moving target, similar to Rhino.
His playstyle is obviously built around the use of his grenade, but those things are the most annoying and unpredictable things in the entire game I feel. A lot of times it seems as if they have absolutely zero effect on the enemy, and other times it will completely blind you despite the fact that you look the complete opposite direction.
I also just simply feel like his light machine gun, the MK46, is the most mediocre thing in the world.
I feel as if the weapon would be amazing with any other merc, but it just doesn’t fit Thunder well in my opinion. I get the idea behind it, in theory you would concuss the enemy team and go in and mow them all down with your huge magazine, but it just doesn’t work like that.
It just doesn’t do enough damage.
It’s pretty good if you’re at point-blank range and can hit a ton of headshots, but other than that, I feel like I’m shooting peas.
It’s just unnecessarily difficult to use. I’m never in a situation that makes me think “hm, the MK46 would be amazing right now.”
His other two options, the TIMIK & STARK, are just objectively better in my opinion.
Here’s a rather controversial opinion;
Why in the world do I even play Thunder?
Fragger does the same job as him, and he’s just… better?
Fragger is a heck of a lot more reliable, and his grenades actually kill people. Not to mention the fact that he’s faster and can use the M4A1.
I suppose Thunder’s saving grace is that he has a tad bit more health and his grenade can effect multiple people, but is that a legitimate reason to switch off of Fragger and play Thunder instead?
Honestly, I’m not quite sure.
At the end of the day, I just like playing Thunder. That’s why I play him. He’s fun.
You should all give him a chance, despite him not being viable in some situations.
