OK, pcgamemods.com has been majorly updated–the pop-ups are gone–and we’re still interested to hear whether or not anybody would be interested in us adding an ET section.
(This time with feeling) pcgamemods.com update
Yeah… there’s a real need for a quickloading, clean site that hosts ET maps. RTCW maps seems to have fallen a bit behind
So, for those of you choosing the “nope” option this time around, what is still deterring you? I’m not trying to be a nuisance or anything; we’re just interested in making the site as good as it can be, and would love to know if there were anything we could do to make it seem more worth your while.
One suggestion, is that for maps, you may want to have the option of a screenshot of the map… a lot of people like to see what they are downloading.
To everyone else: Common, this is a great opportunity to make a good site even better. This place has lots of potential, just browse around.
Ah, the screenshots. Here’s the basic philosophy of pcgamemods.com, in a nutshell… we want it to be fairly self-sufficient, with the mod-developers able to make sure that any content reflective of a file they submit (that is, the description and screenshots, et cetera) is exactly how they want it. To that end, here’s how it works:
Until Sergio gets the image-uploader working (he’s finishing that up presently), it’s up to the staff to post screenshots of submitted files. Soon, though, the developers themselves will be in charge of uploading shots of their files. There will be explicit instructions detailing the upload procedure, but it will be similar to the file uploader currently in place.
So rest assured, the screenshots thing won’t be an issue.
To get a feeling for how the screenshots are treated, browse to http://pcgamemods.com/2072/s/1/ and look around. Toggle between the two image resolutions, as well as the “text” and “image” modes of the “image browser,” to see how things work.
A little more insight into the screenshots can be found at: http://www.pcgamemods.com/imagetutorial.html
If your transfer speeds remain as high as they are now, hell yeah! I AM beginning to get a little disappointed with RtCWFiles, due to how messy it’s getting. It almost reminds me of Yahoo! I mean, Yahoo! cleaned up their site a while back, and they’re starting to clutter it up again. Another thing about RtCWFiles is the fact that you hafta go through FileFront, which has recently turned to poo.
