This is getting old really quick...

I’ve just played FIVE games in a row where the teams were WAY off balanced. and every time, me or other players would initiate a vote shuffle only to be denied because apparently 6 yeas to 1 nay is enough to fail a vote. My last game I walked off with 509 total points because we were so spawned camped that our team couldn’t even move!!! You guys have got to fix this team balance thing. No wonder some people see the desire to hack. This game is not fun anymore, and free to play doesn’t mean squat if you CAN’T PLAY!

Balancing in pubs will never really become a thing. Unless they divide everyone into their own skill groups, no balance can really be achieved, and you can’t divide into skill groups since the community is WAY too small to be separated like that.

(watsyurdeal) #3

The only exception I would make to this is new players, make them play on Proving Ground Servers, then after Level 10 it’s free reign. That’s the only thing I’d change honestly.

There should be hidden MMR for each player. A server (after the first 3 or 4 players join) has a MMR rating which allows for players in the same MMR region to join and others not. This MMR tolerance could be increased/decreased by the number of players that are online.
There could also be servers that dont enforce that rule for all the dumb***** that dont know theres a server browser.

Let me guess, were you playing stopwatch?

The game already uses that. It attaches a rating to every player based on their last 10 games played. That’s how it does it’s pre-game balance in the lobby. But as people are aware, or should be aware, any number of other variables can throw that off. The best you can do is vote yes if there is a shuffle and the match is truly unbalanced (and not just a guy on the other team wants a shot at winning) and/or switch sides if people leave.

No objective

Meh the balancing system we have currently is far from perfect but it does a decent job at balancing the teams before the game start. Since the rebalance of objective i’ve seen far less spawncamping than before and i find it really hard to believe that your team get spawnkilled five consecutive times, if only because good players are spread between teams after the match end.

Yep, Objective is decent right now, especially compared to the cesspit of despair that Stopwatch often is. It could be better with a global MM system but games are much more equal now.

That sounds good, but it still feels super random at times. There have been countless times where (even before the exp bug making levels worthless) there have been great imbalances between teams even right after they were set in the lobby. Now that i’ve become considerably better at this game i still feel like half of my pub games im just farming some random enemies.

Not just the same teams… I backed out to go to the bathroom, logged back in and still got whupped. The spawnkilling episode was the last one. Objective match, Terminal. You know how each side has a private area before the main area? They just parked in there on the attacking side /behind/ us and killed us as we spawned. If you turn around after spawning you’ll see a huge area that isn’t used for some reason.

Update. I finally finished my Objective mission, so I went onto playing stopwatch. Same results, but I expect that more. But out of 10 games played, I have won ONE. And that one because I lucked out and got on the heavy side of a game. I now this is a bad day for me, but what the heck? this past weekend it wasn’t this bad. Do only pro players play on Tuesday nights and I got unlucky?

(SirSwag) #12

Just curious. How many yes votes does it take for a shuffle to happen?

(Yes) #13

51% of the people in the server.

(gg2ez) #14

Community is currently too small for balancing. If DB takes off and becomes a big thing, only then will a balancing mechanic be added.

(diamondArcher) #15

Spawn camping is problem but this has more to do with the maps then team comp. There should be a penalty for entering a spawn area perhaps DOT.

I also find that it’s a bigger problem with 6 player teams then 8 players. With 8 you have a better chance of decent comp. I avoid 6 player games like the plague, only join 7s if no 8s available and have a better experience for it.

It’s actually the other way around. You’ll never see teams of almost equal skill getting spawn camped. It IS an issue with team comp. Otherwise, it wouldn’t BE an issue.

(Mister__Wiggles) #17

Unbalanced teams have been more frequent since the containment update was announced and I think it’s down to the old players coming back and some of the top tier players willing to give the game another chance. What ever is causing it is the main thing holding this game back at the moment. If SD get the team balance right they will have done something that not many Dev teams have managed.

(retief) #18

Planetside was the last game I played. There, one team having 55-60% pop was considered even – unbalanced fights were more like 50+ vs 5. You also had random level 1s occasionally stuck fighting against organized teams of the best players on the server. Compared to that, db’s team balancing is actually pretty wonderful.
