This has probably been asked before SD but....

(Nul Arc) #1

From the walkthrough of CC in 09 why was the game changed so much? It look fantastic, seemed to play well, and the HUD that was blank was really cool not to mention CC at night and the cutscenes. So my question is why did the changes made happen?

(Anneliese Stone) #2

cut backs. probably would have made it in if it was a PC exclusive.

(wolfnemesis75) #3

Lots get changed during dev for various reasons. Also to push the differentiating qualities of brink versus games like Cod. So the two would not be mistaken even if that’s inevitable.

(SockDog) #4

I really doubt SD would be concerned about comparison to CoD enough to change something which seems to be agreed looks much better than what was released.

I think the reality is that performance and playtesting often takes it’s toll on the more spectacular looking stuff.

(tokamak) #5

Consoles. You can’t have shady games on consoles so Brink was brightened up to make it playable on the Xbox and PS3.

(RabidAnubis) #6

It should have either been a console exclusive or a PC exclusive.

(zenstar) #7

A lot of stuff changes due to balance and feedback.

I remember them saying that they reduced the dust clouds from explosions because although they looked awesome it was actually horrible to play in because it blinded everyone.

It’s not just a “console / PC exclusive” issue. Some of the UI design and engine choices would be made to accomodate both, but I bet most of the changes have other reasons behind them.

Ok thanks everyone!

I wish PC players weren’t such haters. Its extremely naive and has become more than annoying in these forums. Yeah the questions have been asked but never entirely answered. Prolly never will be.

this is actually the answer to everything.

This is really what I find so painful to be reminded of.

<3 CC at night.

Ouch sorry man.
off topic but do any of you play TF2?
And not want the anger for it cause I bought the game late and am not willing to pay like $10 bucks to someone who doesn’t even like the game. If not that’s okay just wanted to know. Also Most PC gamers don’t hat consoles cause I have an xbox just I prefer my PC cause it doesn’t feel as clunky.

(.Chris.) #13

No one is hating in this thread though. Just yet another thread asking the same question.

TF2 is free now though.

A great drinking game, every time I lose one of my mates while healing them, I need to drink.

Talking about the item, but yeah being a medic is annoying in tf2 and random crits make me rage.

The blank HUD was because we didn’t have a UI team at the time, and Paul didn’t need a UI because he couldn’t die and had infinite ammo. It was running on a very nice PC.

I don’t know where the CCity at night comes from, but if we left the cutscene in the spawn area, not only would spawn camping be worse, but it would have had to be un-skippable.

There are huge differences between a presentation and a shipping game.

(zenstar) #17

Not to mention annoying after the first couple of times you played the map. That sort of unskippable cutscene is ok for a level in a more traditional singleplayer storyline but would not have worked with the way Brink does things. The Intro/Outro clips do a far better job of telling the story while being skipable and non-intrusive to the gameplay.
