This game needs Proving Ground servers and Mandatory Tutorial

First the Proving Grounds, what do I mean by this?

Basically, what happens is until you are ready, you play with other new players and are simply not allowed to play with the vets.

So, in other words, there are two types of servers, Min, and Max.

Since you can start competitve around level 7, I’d say let’s make that our threshold.

So, what will happen is all max level servers will stay as they are, but every other server is now a min level. So, no more mixing of new players between 1-7 with the vets. You play with other newbies until you get a good grasp of things.

And of course, the tutorial, sure it needs work, but it also needs to be mandatory for now on. No exceptions.

I see a lot of complains about balancing in this game, but THIS I think is the root of the problem, so let’s fix it. Give people the education they need before they get thrown into the serious side of Dirty Bomb.

Seems nice what u are saying, especially the forced tutorial, and just force to play 1-5 lvls in max lvl 5, then a max lvl 10 but first you need to be lvl 5 atleast, then keep the min 10 lvl servers.

Good idea.
Just jam useful dirtybomb knowledge into their brains because it would only take a couple minutes to go through and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, ONLY ONE PERSON REPAIRS.

That should make it so that when a person is sitting there with the tool out not repairing other mercs yell at them. Just trigger insult voices only they hear.

I just had a guy not knowing how to run, tutorial should def be mandatory.

(FilterDecay) #6

you see all kinds of weird shit. I saw a rhino run to a ammo bay and sit there while the bomb was defused.

(blisteringOwlNest) #7

I didn’t know how to team speak until 60+ hours in. Even the simple things can be confusing to a new player.

I hate it when I’m an Engineer and I’m repairing when a Skyhammer comes along, crouches down next to me and starts repairing instead of covering me. Along comes Nadder and blows us up. Happens with people that are over lvl 10. Folks don’t know what teammate is repairing means.

people should learn how to form a meat shield.

I’m so dang surprised that this isn’t a damn feature already. Come on SD, it isn’t going to kill the playerbase to just play through a little tutorial.

This is more about elitism and less about a new player’s skill or knowledge. Tutorials should never be mandatory, and skill isn’t measure by levels on a specific game.

It practically is on every game out there. so why not dirty bomb.

Coming from the guy who skips every tutorial out there when possible.

I rather would see the balance problem addressed with two different stages of pubs.

In the first stage (Lead?) it would include max 5 (or 7 as suggested) servers and also “Free for all” servers which would basically work just like they currently work.

In the second stage (Iron?) it would include maybe the same requirements as for comp matches (currently level 7) but you could play also 5-8vs5-8 AND there would be regulations for these servers like possible friendly fire rules, leaving punishments etc.

Reason for this is that it’s not level issue when it comes to players acting like “it’s only casuals/pubs” or not giving flying duck about teamwork or leaving the match early since it doesn’t suit them.

Proving grounds wouldn’t solve the issue that still bugs also the 7+ level folks and no amount of “education” will make them learn. But at least they can choose after that whether to join “Free for all” casuals or more regulated second stage servers.
That way we could get some quality matches out from those pubs too in the second stage.

If you want to just blast away and chip in you could join first stage and have your fun.
If you want to play more for the team and actually stay in the game you pick second stage.

I rather would make larger tutorial with simple moving bots and actual objectives etc. (which might actually help also to test different weapons and such) than shut just people down to learn stuff they might not learn anyway AND still keep the pubs like they are now.

It doesn’t help to teach new players to do their jobs in “proving grounds” if people in higher levels are thinking that “pubs don’t matter, it’s just fun” or “pubs cannot be balanced since it’s just casual” or “level’s don’t matter but you must first have level x before you can considered not noob”.

AND NO, second stage isn’t same as competitive since it has also servers for more than 5vs5 and it doesn’t have ranking system. Also I think you could fit that party/team system there without ruining “free for all” servers. Like few members of premade teams + randoms on both sides.

But I can see I will probably will play this game just casually now and then so it’s probably not my business anymore. Just my two cents not worth of penny.
