This game isnt "Revolutionary" <_<
Home grown gaming. That’s what I considered you guys. But you pissed on yourselfs and your community, it’s like golden shower porn- but I don’t roll that way. So I put brink on delete, took a shower and now it’s time for the rant.

I’ve stuck by you guys, probably longer than you’ll stick by me (expecting delete after first paragraph) I’ve sat in server and told the people criticizing your “product” that with a line of patches it will be awesome. I’ve watched the servers go from 1400, too 500, to 1000 and had high hopes. Finally a futuristic ET concept!

Today, I got beat down by 3 invisible players. over and over. Turns out they were having a right troll following me around, while I had no sound because it now dies after 3 minutes of gameplay, and just jumping me for the ****s and giggles.

Now, I understand you have no control over what third party programs get released, but Jeez. You’d think you’d stop using the same tried and true Quake engine as your base, which is so easy to code nefarious elements for. You lean on vac like every other **** game - rely on the same hitbox concept as every other game. Well, Invisible players don’t have hit boxes.

Where is this revolution we were promised? Because of your fail game and the immense hype you have given it, even after delays, The customization? the “quadrillion” character possiblities? I.E. not pants with 12 different textures and the same pair of pants for three archetypes? The flowing, E.T. style campaigns? Finally, SMART? which is more like RETARD with to boot, tiny console maps. Pathetic. I’m never buying one of your products ever again.

I hope you’re sipping chardonnay at the pool front with my, and everyone else’s money you pieces of ****, because it’s going to be short lived if you keep releasing games like this, and as a marketer, you need to understand that word of mouth will destroy you- You can pay for your positive reviews but more and more people are depending on good old fashioned word of mouth.

My word on splash damage has gone from Home Grown gamers making games, to People who lie, cheat and twist the truth to create hype for pieces of ****, that arn’t worth the money, time or following. There are free fps’s which have given me more satisfaction than this. Pathetic.

I’m not commenting on the quality here, just comparing to how different Brink is from recent shooter titles.

Brink is a radical change, first game to seperate classes from the weapons, three radically different bodytypes allowing for all kinds of weird setups. There’s no other game that comes close this.

Just the mere fact that you’re calling it an excellent foundation for future games means that it’s already revolutionary. It took a huge leap for better and worse and the rest of the shooter genre is watching with bathed breath to see where it went wrong and where it went right in order to evolve the shooter further.
There’s been hl1 mods that offer body type and no weapon restriction customizations. Also the body types feel half assed in comparison to one another. Heavy has too many downs than ups. Medium is your basic bread and butter. Lights have speed and flanking opportunities. They also capitalize on smgs which are the best guns in the game at the moment.

how many proccesses do you have running at startup, PC gamers have less than 40, how about you ?

Our views of revolution are different and perhaps mine in particular is inflated. I expected more from SD much more. This game in its current state is barely playable.

Wolfenstein, which was an abomination had a better release and smoother gameplay. We’ll see if SD follows through though. They’re our only hope for PC FPS’s since id and Unreal turned vagina.

(Hundopercent) #25

Sup Nail long time no see.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #26

Uh what? I’ve done nothing but play in populated matches with ACTUAL players

I hate when people come here to complain because they cant figure stuff out

(tokamak) #27

You can’t say the chocolate-chip blackberry ice cream isn’t an original flavour because it’s melting.

I think the difference in the definitions is that you incorporate the amount of polish and overall quality of the game into it. A game doesn’t need to have quality or to be polished in order to be revolutionary. Radical ideas are radical ideas even if poorly executed.

Which brings me back to the OP who says that the game isn’t revolutionary because of the lag and of the bots, two pretty minor things when it comes to innovation in the genre, it’s a non sequitur.

The state Brink is currently in, the low performance, the console port-artefacts, the wonky balance is all white-noise preventing us from truly making a judgements on whether their ideas are actually working out. And that’s just a crying shame.

(Sabayon) #28

This game isn’t exactly “revolutionary” but it’s not a bad game either. The game has even more potential… Just need to have the updates to prove it.

(tokamak) #29

Woosh, there goes the entire ‘quality != revolutionary’ thesis over somebody’s head.

(hawksking) #30

I tried that sometime ago and I could only find like 1/6 match that had a full game going others eaither had just me or 1 or 2 more people… and the match that i got into that had full teams was actually a lot fun and better experience then before.

Side note: My brother just played this game for like 20 minutes and said it was a bit boring. We both agreed that it had an excellent concept but could not change it to meet gaming requirements.

Actually I have figured it out and you are probably on PC with dedicated servers

ZOMGWTFDERPA!:open_mouth: … A computer game doesn’t live up to developers/publishers hype and expectations in everyone’s heads … quick, get all upset and QQ … oh yeah! … I’m pretty sure this never happened before with any other game.

for me … on PC … glass is half full and I am having fun

(Bakercompany) #34

Its still great on the Xbox but we’re missing some key elements. Obviously nobody wants lag, and about 50% of our games have it. When you get a lag free match against humans however, the game is brilliant. We also need lobbies, we don’t get servers to browse remember. We hit “find match” and thats it, random game.

Then if we make it in, we have to toss our friends invites and hope they make it too. It’s something that needs to be simplified in order to increase fun.

But the lag is unbearable. Its not something you would see in Black Ops where the hit detection is wrong its one of those “lag spikes” which happens every couple of seconds.

(Bakercompany) #36

Oh most definitely. When you hit the bad matches, which at this moment are roughly 50% its unplayable. Its never a little lag you can shrug off.

Either you get a flawless game or an unplayable game, its interesting. At least its their first priority for fixing. Because Brink as a core game is still very fun and brilliant.

It is fun when im in a lag free match with real players but most of the other times it just pisses me off.

Well, sweetheart, do you have any idea how expensive it is to code an entirely new game engine, to train your entire studio to code for it, to build the tools that go with it and to train your entire team to use them ? Do you have any idea how expensive and time-consuming it is to build from scratch your own anti-cheat system ?

Then, on hitboxes :
-How can you tell that invisible players don’t have hitboxes ?
-If all games use hitboxes, it’s because calculating hits solely using the geometry is not possible in real time with today computers.
-Is Splash Damage supposed to build the game so that players affected by bugs or cheating can be killed fairly (i.e. : Is Splash Damage supposed to do the impossible ?)

Well, word of mouth will make them because unlike you, a lot of people are happy to see such a good multiplayer team-oriented first person shooter at last. And my intention is to get as many people to buy the game because it’s a very good game and I know they will like it.

And as far as reviews go, a lot of them were pretty harsh with this game. And guess what, I am tasked with writing a review of this game for a website, and I will recommend it. I (and a lot of other reviewers) recommanded and will recommand this game because it is good.

I like this game but there is a lot of stuff that needs to be patches such as lag. The team work is great in this game and I wish every other game looks at Brink and develops on the teamwork but other then that the bots and lag are too much…

(Niceperformancethere) #40

agreed. cant be revolutionary if doesnt hold up to the lowest frames per second standards, unstable crashes and sound issues.
