This game could be a lot better if...

If they honestly just got rid of airstrikes all together and just stuck to the solid gun-play with a focus on mobility and objective based game play. At this rate, you might as well change the name to AirStrike.

In my opinion the airstrike spam does nothing but take away from this game. Rework arty, skyhammer, and all the other aerial nuke spam mercs and give them something a little more original/tactical. At the very least set a limit to how many of them can be on one team. A team with 5 Skyhammers is just obnoxious. While you are at it, take that time to rework the EV objective into something a little more interactive for BOTH sides. Maybe allow Objective based merc’s (Proxy, Fletcher) abilities do massive damage to the EV? Throwing sticky bombs and blowing out the EV treads makes sense to me.

I love the games gameplay. It is just a little hard to enjoy it when my screen is full of overwhelming explosions spanning across the map 24/7. It does not feel healthy at all when the game already has such good underlying mechanics. Just my opinion anyway.

if you can’t handle the spam, just join 6v6 servers.

The problem is that Skyhammer and the other fire support mercs also have the additional role of suppression and area denial of large groups of enemies. Used correctly, it can neutralize a mindless rush and, especially with Kira’s laser strike and Stoker’s incendiary grenades, can be used to temporarily close off an area to enemies making a push. While I do agree that spam of these fire support abilities is annoying, they are a major part of the game and removing them would make those mercs underused. I’d rather that the recharge on these abilities be increased by about 20-45 seconds instead of completely removing them, but that’s just my opinion.

Lol. “If you can’t handle the spam.” The fact that it is spam at all is the problem. Please save your “git gud” comments for the call of duty forums.

it was stated by devs, that they do not want to make team-cooldown
i think this is counter productive.

but they seem to agree on making 1merc rule or a draft mode, so that there wont be 5 skyhammers. or 5 kiras in competitive and hopefully in MM.
but we shall have a team of Stoker+Sky+Kira+Arty and that is even worse (on any EV map).

we need to wait when everybody will have Kira in pool, and see how everu EV part will become a laserfest-instadisable.

my overal feeling is that most exploisives abilities (artilery) should have big cooldowns, like more than a minute (i.e Skyhammer) so that ppl will not spam them, but treasure them.

trololol?

Save your projections for somebody else mate.

Game was designed with 5v5 in mind, and spam is very manageable in 5v5.

8v8 is a major clusterfuck, and I would not expect a new player to keep up with what is going on in that type of game. Experienced players however WILL learn how to play around spam, and not die as often; since if you die from airstrikes all the time you probably don’t know that:

  • you can tell which way airstrike is gonna go by knowing the position of the airstrike marker and the skyhammer who threw it
  • you can look up and see the plane approaching
  • you can hear the plane approach
  • you can hide indoors and wait for the airstrike to stop. One skyhammer means at best one airstrike every 90sec

I get the problem with skyhammer (Felt the same way when I started playing DirtyBomb) but you get used to it and learn to dodge it pretty consistently. You know, when you start a game you get shot and be like “What? I didn’t even see that guy!” but later you see a red pixel or hear footsteps and know exactly where the enemy is. “Learning the game”

But Arty really isn’t that much of a problem.
He can use his Strike pretty often, yes. But the indication that it’s coming is pretty obvious, the AoE is pretty small and it’s over within a blink of an eye.
Considering those three facts the short cool down is justified.

I hate to sound like a fanboy, but telling Szakalot to save his comments is basically saying you don’t want to learn the game. Because basically everything the man says is right on the money. Also, he kinda scares me.

If I may, though, I’d like to refer you to a humble guide I wrote on how to survive aerial death. It’s in the game guides section. While I can’t guarantee it’s all solid advice ( or complete, for that matter ), it contains the things I keep in mind and that help me to survive where others don’t.

When I first started, I got killed all the time by Airstrikes, Skyhammer’s namely. I got pretty mad.

Now? While they do have huge area coverage, and decent chunk of damage, they are really easy to spot, and simply cause me to retreat. Now I just get shot in the back while retreating.

It’s something.

1.it shows you where the airstrike is gonna land + theres a sound cue.

2.aoe damage will always kill people because of the chaos of high population pub servers but that doesn’t make it OP.

(MoFragn) #13

This an for Skyhammer in particular I think the AOE need to be MUCH smaller.

(arolust) #14

Maybe they can add some abilities that can negate or diminish the larger abilities like air strike.
Something like air protection that stops air strikes from happening for a little while, or just cuts its damage or area in half.

Or a deployable “dome” that protects against it. You could have kiras “sky laser” lol be able to penetrate but not standard airstrikes.

The only modification that I’d like to see is airstrikes being friendly fire enabled. There’s too much arty strikes launched without any consideration given to friendly placement. Area denial should be denial for everybody, your team included.
It’s very visible on Chapel last obj area, so many games I’ve been won by arty spamming on your team head until delivery is made.

That said, really, it’s super frustrating for like 10 games. You get used to it pretty fast, and learn to rush the fuck away from these red grenades and laser running around you (I think I got Kiraed only once, for example). It took longer for me to learn to stop jumping on Nader’s corpse (I had to actually make Nader my main to end up thinking about it  )

(Glot) #17

i like this verb =))

Whole team got instaKiraed!!
