Think kills will be satisfyinig?
I’ll be more satisfied with the teamwork aspect and less lone-wolf play. With it being harder to kill each player, when you run into a pair of people and you’re alone, you’ll probably die. Whereas in games like Blops if you’re skilled, you can kill 2 people very quickly by yourself. The extended life will make it more strategical and tactical I think.
I kind of agree with the OP. In CS if you die without getting a kill, you did not aid your team, if you get one kill you just cancelled out your own existance, if you get 2 or more kills you are effectively being productive.
In Team Fortress 2, and I imagine BRINK, certain classes (or players) will be targets, and you’ll want to try and take them down. It may be that killing that one medic in exchange for your own life might be very much work it. I know in TF2 I’ve gotten multiple kills and it’s meant nothing because that Medic, or Heavy (or other skilled player) escaped and managed to still do damage to my team.
Edit: I’m only talking about in regards to “kills” and thus combat. Of course there are a lot of other ways to help the team.
You monster! What has humanity come to?
Why does everyone have the misconception that there won’t be any one hit kills?
…Because there won’t be one hit kills. There may be one hit incapacitations (buffed weapon head shot on a light weight), but no one hit kills.
That’s pretty much just a matter of semantics. ‘Incapacitated’ in Brink is the analogous to ‘killed’ in other games. Once you get incapacitated there’s a very limited subset of actions you can take. I should have used the term ‘one hit incap’ or something to be more clear though.
I felt like your comment implied OHI would happen all the time. Anyone that has spent time looking up brink and following it knows the situations that would result in a OHI are truly rare.
Naa, you were wrong. Incapacitation does not equal a kill. If you are incapacitated you can be revived (or self revived). When you get killed, you die.
Edit: OHI = ohh haiii. Sorry, made me giggle when I typed it.
Thats not true of most shooters nowadays. You’ve been able to revive dead people in videogames since BF2. Incapacitation is just a re-branding of the same thing that’s been going on for years.
Further more, incapacitation is a core mechanic of Brink. Every player has basically 2 lives. You have active health and incapacitation health. IMO, if you have 1% of active health and get hit with a full on shotgun blast in the face, it doesn’t dip into your incapacitation health.
Also, sorry for the vitriol in my last comment. It was undeserved. My bad.
Edit:
Most shooters now a days have you go out of the way to pick perks or abilities that would foster this play style. Brink has this as a core mechanic. You could literally stay incapacitated for as long as you want. You can just wait there until you someone picks you up or you get shot dead.
I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this point then. I feel that your description here matches quite a few of the games I’ve played in the past. I will admit that not all games go through this route though.
ed: That said I can only hope that the video where Wedgewood spinal taps an enemy with a shotgun isn’t indicative of what normally happens in the game.
Agreed
Are you asking if the spinal tapper killed the guy with that shot {completely bypassing the incapacitation state)? I believe he did not.
I think it will be. All games have their own way to making kills satisfying, some have a ping noise every time the bullet hits, some have an overkill animation, others have some visual stuff such as showing “2 Kills” when you kill someone, and others… well, these are the only three things that come to mind.
I think having it show “exp” every time you hit the enemy will make it satisfying enough… I’m hoping it’ll have some type of sound to every time you hit/kill them though…
Basically short answer yes, kills will be satisfying but a different kind of satisfaction than other games.
Long answer below;
I think the kills will be very satisfying in this game if theyre anything akin to the firefights in quakewars. Yes i realize these are two totally different games but what i’m getting at is this style of game is different than COD and the military sims where whoever shoots first gets the kill, as somebody said before. Im really looking forward to getting away from “hide and seek with bullets” style gameplay myself. I really miss more arcadey style shooters like UnrealTournament quakewars quake etc. All the games that have came out recently have been all about being in the right place at the right time and who has the best idea of where the enemy is to get there first.
Its not that both styles of gameplay dont require skill, its just a different set of skills. I tend to get very aggrivated at times with some of these newer games like cod and bad company 2 etc because they all kindve follow that same pattern i listed above and theres no real point to them except getting kills. I remember in quakewars i could run up into a group of 5 enemies and take one of them out, sure i died pretty quick at times lol but me killing that one enemy actually made a difference and maybe gave my teammate the split second he needed to arm the bomb, or finish repairing the generator etc. Killing an enemy in cod and similar style games doesnt seem to make much difference at all, except one more point on the board.
I feel the kills are satisfying in both gamestyles but i far prefer brink’s or quakewars in that when i get a kill it in some way helps my team, instead of my own personal KD. Ive never cared about score for the most part in games and ussually play to be part of a team. Nothing compares to that feeling of teamwork when u complete an objective as a team to me.
Why do you have the miscoception that there will be OHKs? The developers have stated publically that there won’t be, though it was later revealed that given certain circumstances (perks & buffs), only some lights could be OHK’d by a headshot. You will never OHK a medium or heavy. It is impossible within the game.
well, there’s this so idk. may or may not still be the case.
