Things that make Dirty Bomb less enjoyable or competitive.

There are things that has to be said before I go to main topic:

  • 1st I love DB, so far best arcade shooting experience I had since ET (Yeah sadly overal experience in ET was better than ET:QW) and it’s my favourite game at the moment. I fully understand this game has some problems but considering SD and Nexon aren’t bigest companies in games industry I admire their work on this game, especialy after fast response on aura bug.
  • 2nd In this topic I will ignore client technical issues because this is BETA.

Main topic:

1# Aimpunch:
Lowers skill cap
Yes, thing everybody hates but is required in shooter games.
In ET it was possible to outskill 3 players meeting them upfront just by better strafing and aiming but in DB case aimpunch affects shooting so much it’s nearly impossible, it punishes all agressive players that will try with their amazing aiming skills carry their team while beeing agressive. Right now beeing shot in chest/legs hurts aim too much, especialy considering some weapons but that will be debated later.
Problem is that there are no ways to counter aimpunch reliably (other than taking fast firing weapon).

Slows the game
In DB case it’s especialy critical considering respawn system, defending team will hit you 1st or take you into crossfire and with current aimpunch it makes your recoil go nuts. This affects global gameplay - game is getting more defensive and it’s losing speed - 1st hit adventage is too big when you just have to run into enemy position to take objective - in CS there are flashbangs/smokes that will negate this adventage and there are 2 bombsides so defenders are always split over the map.

Makes weapons unballanced
Also it makes all nonautomatic weapons unreliable: Br-16, Stark, Dreiss AR - this weapons should reward good aiming but in current meta where most weapons in use are smgs or m4a1 not hitting 1st is a doom against even medium skilled player. Scoring headshot while enemy constantly shoots you in legs/torso is pure luck with semiauto or burstfire arms.

2# Netcode:
Actual netcode still gives advantage (not so huge as it was in CB) to players with 150-250 ping (maybe even higher but haven’t tested it) and ppl are abusing it not only on competitive but on pubs too. Nothing more to say here because I am sure devs are aware of it.

3# Private/Passworded servers:
I am sure there will be in future (So far played every SD game so It would be shocking not seeing dedicated servers in future) so just pointed it out.

Please give your thoughts about this post, say if you agree or not. I am hoping here for some interesting discussion among DB fans.

#1 for me is Hackers. Hackers, Hackers freaking Hackers.

It has been confirmed by Splash Damage that the binaries for private servers will not be released. However, private matches will be implemented to allow players to invite who they want to the game and setup the rules for that match.

Really.

I kept hearing that we would be able to run servers. That is… disappointing. It’s also a bad decision that will stifle growth, but that’s only my opinion.

What’s even more disappointing is the amount of cheating/imbalance going on when everything is all of SD’s side and internal. Yes it’s being worked on. Yes improvements to the anti-cheat are (allegedly) coming soon. Why was this not all nailed down a long time ago? It’s not like they’re working with a new game engine. It’s years old.

ffs it was released in 2004.

I love the game but there are gonna be a lot of casualties due to frustration.

Can you link source of that information ? This is disaster, no tricjump servers ? no mods in future? no clan servers? no custom maps ? This will insanely decrease possible growth of the game and without gigantic community and serious esport this might turn into 1 season game. - but still don’t believe you, considering all games SD did in the past.

Community driven servers always increase a game’s lifespan - look at custom games, maps, and all the rest. Not letting them grow will just stifle this game.

I wonder if they understand that it may simply destroy game economy if not done right.
Setup a match, pass protect it and then just farm creds by either idling and chatting or simply helping eachother(on different teams) to complete requirements for missions.
I truly hoped for a private servers. Even if they would be run by SD, that are separated from game main account database. Allowing players to do whatever they want, without serious implications for main population.

Server binaries is not the same as an SDK. Community maps are a possibility once an SDK is released, however SD has stated that one would not be released for quite awhile(Most likely 6-12 months post full release, but that is speculation on my part). This would allow users to create maps and submit them to Splash Damage.

As far as the source for the info it, it is all from the Dev streams.
