"Hey guys, remember before when we decided people could buy Phoenix with ingame credits and get a cool limited edition skin? Remember how some people missed out because they didn’t have the time to grind, OR money to throw at a merc?
Well now we’re doing it again! And this time you CAN’T use ingame credits! AT ALL!"
Well thanks SD. Thanks for alienating a massive part of the playerbase that were hoping to get an Obsidian card after seeing so many other people getting one.
$15 USD as well? Oh man, I’m gonna have to dig real deep into the couch change fund.
@CCP115 it’s a skin. Something that is 100%, ENTIRELY cosmetic. It has no impact on the gameplay what-so-ever. Dirty Bomb is in much need of some non-RNG based microtransactions to help keep development moving forward, there’s no denying that.
This is honestly a good move for Splash Damage and the community. Complaining about not receiving a premium skin is quite frankly absurd and I’m not sure I can think of a single other F2P game that allows users to get a bunch of skins like that for free.
I had a feeling the “free” players would complain about this, and if they keep it up, it might make Splash Damage think “Well if people are just going to complain, we may as well just stick with the elite case system”…
Yet do you see other F2P games making cosmetics limited time only, tied to events, then removed from the game entirely forever? Especially considering that SD has basically nothing that is in the ingame store permanently, everything gets swapped out per event, except the mercs, and I’m not entirely sure who even buys the mercs with real money.
This could also be a real kick in the balls for fre players who were looking forward to the event, only to find that one of the 6 mystery icons was… a paid option. Only.
Is it that hard to make trinkets permanently buyable? League of Legends, CS:GO, and TF2 all have major stores, that very rarely have limited time events, but have incredibly large pools of items to choose from, and more importantly, very good item circulation between players.
We have $15 loadout cards available for 5 weeks, then gone. Forever. Not even guaranteed to be tradeable.
EDIT: Also a quick mention, the relative value of DB loadout cards to CS:GO skins and TF2 hats is pretty ridiculous. Again, loadout cards available for 5 weeks, gone. TF2 hats, available for basically any time at all. The exclusivity of cards also makes them so much rarer, and important to grab now, while TF2 simply works off of people making small transactions daily.
