I really like the new proposed Phantom rework. The change to invisibility does introduce another level of skill into the equation.
However, I recently realized that the new EMP function will not be as useful as the current one.
A single EMP blast means a lot more room for error. Think about all the mines and Fletcher sticky bombs you didn’t have to worry about. Also, if there are multiple enemy deployables, a single EMP blast probably won’t disable them all. Personally, I used to use the EMP as a way to find and disable med stations, Turtle shields, and Guardian shields while behind walls and cover.
In short, the new EMP mechanic will introduce more skill to playing Phantom, but it will ultimately hurt his team more. I never saw the constant EMP cloak as an overpowered ability and since Phantom will have full invisibility soon I don’t think that would give away his position much. Then again, I’m just one person and I would love to hear other people’s thoughts.
