The trading system - Suggestions.

I’m sure there has probably already been 1000 threads made on this (I haven’t bothered to look but I’m sure it’s a well discussed topic) but why is it the way it is? The randomness, the guess work, the disappointment, the money wasted. I don’t know if I speak for everyone but after doing 2 or 3 trades by giving up multiple bronze cards for a completely useless silver card that I will never use, it’s safe to say I will probably never use the trading up system ever again. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way.

The idea is great, I just don’t see why it has to be random. I know silver/gold/cobalt are only cosmetic, but at the end of the day enough dirty bomb enthusiasts are going to want them because lets face it - they look bad ass.

My first simple suggestion is this - even if it works out more expensive to do so - let us trade up for the exact card we want. Even if I had to pay more money for it or give up 6 bronze (instead of 3) for the 1 specific card I wanted, I’d actually be willing to do that. Leave both options there if you have to. 3 cards = trade up for a random card, some higher amount of cards = pick a specific card. Simple.

To be honest, I think people would even pay more real money for silver/gold/cobalt cards if they were also included in the store. That’s suggestion number 2.

I know there a bunch of better ideas (such as player to player trading, or a general market in game where you can list cards and have people offer on them etc) but this one seems like a no brainer to me. I just don’t understand the logic behind the random system.

It’s very discussed. That’s all people have been crying about lately, their cards.

I, personally, don’t really care. If I get them, great, if I don’t, whatever. It’s not why I play the game.

The market idea has been suggested a lot as well, and I believe they said it’s not in their plans right now, and other things take priority.

Because making it hard to get what you want should encourage people to take the easier route by buying some cases. It’s sound logic and a fine strategy for a free to play game, it’s just a little too heavy handed on the RNG across the board. That’s all I really have to say, I’ve talked this to death dozens of times before, but that’s the “why” of it.

To summarise what is officially known about “trading” right now:

  • Yes, it WILL be coming to the game for definite.
  • Current estimated time-frame for it is early-to-mid 2016.
  • It will “likely” be Steam inventory integrated, this is the main reason why implementation will take longer.
  • Due to Steam inventory integration, this could also mean community market availability, but this has been neither confirmed nor denied by the devs.
  • The only cards confirmed to be “soulbound” (unable to trade) are the Founder and Beta Fighter (Closed Beta) Obsidian cards.

I don’t expect SD to change how trade-in and trade-up works because cosmetic is their main revenue i suspect. Re-rolling won’t happen anytime soon so it’s pointless to hope.

What i do ask devs to do is to change the trade-in so that if you use one or both the loadouts of the same merc you are going to re-roll the game make sure you can’t get a card which is the same loadout as the one(s) used in the trade-up (example: if you use one or two fragger cards and you trade-in for fragger you can’t get those card(s) when trading-in)
