The Top Storylines of DirtyCups.gg Closed Beta Series Cup #2

(FishStix) #1

Hey all!

As you know (or should know), the DirtyCups.gg Closed Beta Series continues tomorrow with the second official cup! This cup is our most complete Dirty Bomb competition ever maxing out at 32 total teams. Naturally, I’m pretty excited and wanted to put some of my thoughts into writing. So without further ado…
The Top Storylines of DirtyCups.gg Closed Beta Series Cup #2

Will PkD (formally v586) continue their reign of dominance?

I know it, you know it, we all know it: the recently sponsored Planetkey Dynamics team (formally v586) is the best team in Dirty Bomb today. But will their reign of terror continue? PkD enjoyed convincing first place victories in all 4 of the the last 4 DB tournaments, but that doesn’t mean other teams (ZFZ, .ini, dMon) can’t give the champs a run for their money. The only thing for sure is that they have a huge target over their head and are once again the team to beat.

USA USA USA USA?

The first cup of the Closed Beta series saw a huge upset as a North American team broke into the top 2 and took a map off PkD in the grand finals. Zero Five Zero turned heads by making it so deep in their first showing in any DirtyCups event, but was their run just a fluke? Will we see a repeat performance from the American heroes or will they go down early to Europe’s best? Due to seeding points awarded in the previous cup they will fight through the opposite side of the bracket as PkD, so who knows, maybe we will see a rematch!

Return to form for Europe’s top teams

While PkD took first place in all of the recent Dirty Bomb tournaments, two teams have consistently reached the finals (or at least deep into the bracket): INITIATLIZED and dMon. dMon made it into the finals of Test Cup #1 while .INI made it to the finals of Test Cup #2. Both teams are on opposite sides of the bracket but we’ll be watching closely nonetheless to discern who will take the cake as second best in EU.

The newcomers and potential upsetters

New blood will be tested (and spilt) tomorrow. But which teams do we expect to go far or pull an upset?

Luminosity Gaming. Even with a sever lack of Dirty Bomb experience I expect good things from this squad. Luminosity is full of folks who have competed across a myriad of FPS titles, including current CS:GO pros and Enemy Territory veterans. The player to watch here is Hollywood (hly) who has enjoyed success on NA’s best teams in previous Splash Damage titles.

VGS. Shazbot! I am yet to see this team play together but if I know one thing, it is that Tribes vets are hard core. And these particular Tribes vets have competed at a high level. I’m expecting adept fraggers, if nothing else.

Team Fate (F8). F8 have been together since Quake Wars and have competed in several titles together. On paper, I would expect them to go far. In reality, I hear they have had issues maintaining a solid 5 as their Fragger Ceres is unable to play on Sundays.

PomPoms. A good roster and a good amount of experience for this Euro squad.

YOU. There are a dozen+ teams that will show their face for the first time in this cup. Plenty of room for upsets!

What are your thoughts & predictions? Did I miss anything in my analysis? DO YOU WANT TO TRASH TALK? DO it all in this thread. And see you tomorrow at 10AM PDT / 1900 CEST over at twitch.tv/dirtycups!

Love the write up! I will not be participating for ini today but now I have finished my training I can actually practice during the week so I am hoping for my performance to improve dramatically!

Good luck to all those playing
