I see lots of people file out of the lobby as soon as the match is over. I know sometimes it’s rage because it was a bad game or maybe some people don’t like the next map, but I think a lot of it is that it’s faster to leave and find a new match than wait on the same server. I might be wrong, so that’s why I’m putting up this poll.
The time between matches is...
The TOTAL time is fine. It’s the duration when voting maps is too short and waiting for players to join into the lobby menu is too long at times.
I am going for the absolute total time between matches though the thing most easily controlled will be lobby time + voting time. For example:
Total time = lobby time + voting time + lock in time + load screen + tutorial screen + pregame time
I’d be more than happy if we had no map vote and the game just went straight from the end of game score summary, did it’s little auto-scramble and dumped you into the next game ready up screen.
@Backuplight the only issue is have with that changing squads, as I like to change my squads and even their load outs depending on the map.
I also find that for me personally, the menus can be so slow I don’t have a chance to vote for a map or change my squad, which is irritating. Obviously I wouldn’t want the time increased, but if anyone has any tips on decreasing this menu lag, let me know.
Also, I think deploying if you’ve joined a new match that’s started is too long. 40 seconds? Just give me 20 for my squad then throw me in.

That’s true I suppose, though I wouldn’t even mind having to go back to the main menu to change my squad - probably because I don’t really change it much unless missions make me play someone I’m not a fan of (Looking at you, Vassili).
The deployment time is annoying, agreed. I think the issue they had is just how they approached it on the back end though, since we used to have people spawning in before they’d even loaded - now it does the check to make sure you’re loaded, then gives you the 15 second timer, then loads you in. I imagine if they speed that up any more it won’t be by much.
Edit: …I can’t remember the last time I actually voted on a map. Does anyone else just really not care what maps they play?
I agree with both comments above about the hotjoin deployment delay. Sometimes I feel like I have time to open my steam overlay and check my email before it lets me jump in. Then again, I don’t change my squad up much. I pretty much always run a medic, a mechanic, and a DPS.
I would also be fine with them skipping the tutorials on a map if everyone on the map is above X level. Then again, I can see why they do it… i’ve played too many levels of Bridge where half my team doesn’t understand we have to defend the barrier generator and instead keep attacking the EV
For me, I always play the game with friends, so the time between games in lobbies is spent talking about the recent match/next map etc. so that time to me is in itself enjoyable. Also changing mercs for different maps sometimes.
I can see how time inbetween games may be long for people who play solo, that being said, you can always browse the interwebs 'n stuff while waiting I guess.
SD made the time for a reason and not to annoy players. So it’s just right.
All those dances with lobby time and config have become only worse with time, imo.
Whole redesigned lobby, timers, inability to see what side im on(i tended to pick mercs based on what side i was playing, defenders of attackers, but no more, now i have to go with some generic sh!t, attempting to fill every possible role… poorly of course)…
Why they couldnt do it like normal white people do it - map starts, map ends, 20 second cooldown, next map starts(votign for next map could be happenign even during match, what exactly stops them from implementing it - something along the lines “tap F6 and voting menu for the next map appears”, once match ends, game simply picks map that has most votes and proceeds from there, bypassing whole pointless lobby voting part with its stupid timers); while players can spend as much time as they like looking at stats or choosing mercs(during which time they are assigned into spectators). Those various features that are made to hold player hand are pissing me off greatly, since they have rather opposite effect.
Some players leave when a match is finished so new players have to join the server to fill up the teams after each game. The current time is way too short to properly fill up a server.
The balancing algorithm does its work way too early and the teams are balanced with just a few players because the server did not fill up yet. When more players join, the teams can easily get stacked due to late joiners just getting assigned to the team with least players.
Another big problem with short lobby times is that on some maps the first objective is hard to break normally, but in a 3v3 game it´s quite easy. Bridge for example. So a Bridge Stopwatch game starts with 3v3 and then it fills up to 7v7. By the time it´s 7v7 the first objective is already down. If the teams are balanced this game is already over. The attacking side is going to win almost certainly. There is no way the defending team can break the first objective as fast in a 7v7 when sides are swapped.
I would like an extra minute in lobby to make sure the server gets filled up. Balancing would be better and overall would be a much more enjoyable match. In a 30 min match what does 1 extra minute of lobby time do. Stretch your legs, grab a drink or read some forums.
best way to go about it:
- map ends
- map vote on end screen
- next map loads
- warmup with random teams until server is full (or 80% full)
- people can ready up to shorten the warmup
- at end of warmup you are placed in lobby, teams are shuffled and people can pick their mercs/loadouts
- map starts
it does take too long, but usually half my team hasn’t spawned yet, so you can’t make it that much shorter I guess…

My argument against this would be that if you make lobby times even longer, instead of the lobby filling up it would empty out. I think a lot of people don’t stick around and wait in the lobby because it’s faster to leave a finished match and hotjoin a new one. That’s basically why I made this poll.
I actually feel like its to long… One for voting, one for merc switching, one for ready uping? Really? Is all that needed?
