“Reduced maximum full-blind Flash time by 20% to 2.0s (from 2.5s)”

In the Fire In The Skies’ update, Splash Damage released a change to Thunder’s concussion grenades, reducing the maximum full-blind and full-stun durations. On paper, these were a step in the right direction (admittedly not a big enough step), however in-game, these changes don’t seem to be working as intended.

Since the update, I have been cautious every time I get hit by a concussion grenade. I didn’t believe that the previous full-blind time was only 2.5 seconds, and was almost certain it was closer to 3 or 4. I have been recording every instance I was hit by a concussion grenade, in hopes I would find an issue with it’s duration (specifically full-blind), however I never found myself being hit with the full force of a grenade (i.e. having it detonate at my feet.), until a few minutes ago.

Below is a video where Thunder’s grenade detonated a few centimetres infront of me, and I got hit with all of it’s power, and what I found was that the full-blind duration well surpassed the 2 second mark, and came close to breaking 3 seconds.

I had noticed this immediately after the patch went live, but could never capture conclusive evidence.

full blind is followed by “slowly regaining vision” :>

Still waiting for “Reduced maximum full-blind Flash time by 100% to 0s (from 2.0s)”

Thanks for the post! I’ve past it on to the QA team to take a look at.

EDIT: QA took a look into it and the timings are correct. It seems longer though as that patch note was talking only about the time which your screen is fully white from the concussion i.e. full-blind. Once the full blind time has finished, there is another time for the blind to leave your screen completely which makes it seem longer.

@stayfreshshoe I am sorry but I have my doubts.

I’ve asked multiple friends to time it themselves, as well as had the clip imported into editing software and had it counted frame by frame. All of the feedback I received agreed that the full-blind effect lasted longer than 2.0 seconds, and around 2.6-2.7 seconds.

The concussion grenades work as I thought they would, with two separate counters. I assume the issue is that when the “fading” counter begins to clock down, the screen does not immediately begin to fade, further extending the duration of having a screen completely white.

Even something as simple as opening the stopwatch on your mobile phone and, to the best of your ability, accurately measure the time between the concussion grenade detonating and the screen beginning to fade in. Despite not being 100% accurate, I guarantee the margin of human error won’t account for how long the full-blind lasts.

I tested this with a friend pre-patch. The blinding effect from flashed to no flash at all lasted 295 frames at 60 fps, which is almost 5 seconds. In the patchnotes it said the effect lasts 2.5 seconds which is half of what it really lasted. I haven’t tested it after the patch yet.

Even if the screen was supposed to be “fully” blinded for 2.5 seconds only, you still couldn’t see anything before the 5 seconds :frowning:

Sounds like you both have confirmed the flash is working correctly, the video confirms it too.

The fastest I could get with hand-testing using a phone stopwatch was 2.4 seconds from full white to the very start of the fade in vision. With an average human reaction time of .2s, .2s to start the clock and .2s to stop for an extra .4 seconds, that means the blind was about 2 seconds.

Considering the average reaction time is .2s, that Thunder conc was a big red circle for a full second, which is 5 average-time attempts he had to look away. And avoid being blinded at all

Are you just posting that link so people will check out your youtube page?

Ah yes, the unlisted video that’s a few seconds long is a great way to promo a channel.

how else are we gonna see the video proof lol
