The Technique Used in 1024 "ml_chapel"

(CrazedFan) #1

In the ml_chapel level that was part of the 1024 Contest Map Pack, the author use a technique that showed a light ray coming from the stained glass window.

How would you mimik that effect? I’ve not been able to product the same result after a dozen attempts.

Thanks,

A semi-transparent brush with the color of the light you wish, with a surfaceparm nonsolid

Just check the source thegnat linked you to. And basically it’s simply what LaggingTom said, a series of transaparent nonsolid brushes. Nothing really out of the world

I was having trouble getting the dark lines. My approach was making a texture with an Alpha channel. Now that I have inspected his work I see he created several brushes. I was trying to do it all in one.

Thanks!

I didn’t use an alpha channel but rather made a near black texture and used “blendfunc add” in the shader.
