The story has just begun

The story has just begun
Win both story campaigns (not including What-If missions)

I don’t see anyone discussing this, am I the only one who is interested by it?

What could it mean? Does it mean like playing what-if missions or just playing the game and reliving the story? Or does it confirm DLC story missions (I mean I’m pretty sure we gonna get some DLC maps and they will probably fit into the story somehow) or even a sequel? If it like is left on a cliff-hanger or something.

I should also mention that the achievement for the Resistance campaign is “You’ve escaped the Ark”.

Here are all the achievements: http://www.splashdamage.com/node/774

Play through the campaign twice, once with resistance and and once with security… whats interesting? It specifically says “not including what-if missions”… not sure what you’re getting at (or why it needs a thread and couldnt be discussed in the open thread?)

(Mustkunstn1k) #3

You pretty much finish the entire real story… and the game says “The story has just begun”. What is not to talk about?

(DarkangelUK) #4

So it’s open ended, leaving room for DLC (which we expected) or a sequel (which we expected… if it does well).

By all means close a new intellectual property down, tie all lose ends together and have no ambiguity regarding the outcome. That’s how franchises get far.

(Mustkunstn1k) #6

Well… doesn’t it kind of confirm one or the other? Imho it’s new information that could be speculated on… story dlc would be awesome. A sequel would be even awesomer.

If “But the story has just begun” isn’t the most famous line in the end of first parts of famous series, then I don’t know what is.

Do/did we have any reason to assume that Brink is going to be a franchise?

I don’t even really know what could happen next. Rest of the world is gone… one side wins, the other loses. Unless there is a cliffhanger.

(Herandar) #7

It doesn’t confirm anything.

This post to be continued…

(Mustkunstn1k) #8

It indeed doesn’t, but I found it very interesting. Something to fuel the speculation…

(DarkangelUK) #9

Sorry, I’m just not seeing what (non-rhetorical) speculation you’re fueling is all.

I think he reads the words more literally, or just reads more into the words, as he’s not a jaded native English speaker.

(Mustkunstn1k) #11

Quite possible. But often these new video games end with cliffhangers and also say something like “But our story has just begun.”

It feels like Brink might end on a some kind of a cliffhanger too.

(Maawdawg) #12

It is hard to speculate on a cliffhanger when two of the other achievements say “you saved the Ark” and “you escaped the Ark” in their names. I think this is just a bit too much searching for something to talk about. It is just an achievement name and doesn’t have to seriously mean something.

I would lean towards it being a play on words trying to show that even though you finished the game you aren’t “finished with the game” due to replayability, especially considering the amount they have talked about that in interviews.

I’m curious if the large rocket strike on the founder tower is one of the penultimate missions that decides success or failure, or if it’s just one of the ‘What-if’ missions.

I’d really like to think that given SD’s history the story that’s only just begun is the one into a long multiplayer experience. ie. You’ve finished the narrative now play multiplayer over and over and over.

I agree, it doesn’t have any deeper meaning, yet

yeah, I was going to say the same thing. The story has just begun = you have only just started playing/scratched the surface of what Brink is really all about: great multi-player gameplay.

(Herandar) #17

One of the post-NDA articles I read that discussed the ‘What-If Missions’ mentioned that a terrorist-type Resistance attack was a ‘What-If’ (What if the Security wins, but the Resistance still survives, pushed into a figurative corner). I’m fairly certain it was talking about the rocket strike specifically.

(Schwarzeis) #18

Maybe they want people to discuss the story and think of the ‘‘ending’’ themselves?

(Nail) #19

maybe they’re just a bunch of smart-ass euros that know gamers will dissect anything and speculate about it no end and did it for their own amusement (my personal fav)

OMG, what’s that green glowing thing!?!
